I'm currently hearin: U2, "Pop"

NME.com have a news story "U2 unveil new Best Of tracklisting":
http://www.nme.com/news/u2/24941

I thought I'd read some claim about this being the only compilation to cover from Boy to the present day, but I don't see anything earlier than War.

Nothing from Pop either! Perhaps that's not such a surprise, given how much of a kicking they give it in interviews these days.

Still, looks like a nice compilation :) Just waiting for some news on that bonus disc now ...

I still reckon the new mix of Gone is a fucking gem, I love it to pieces.

To be fair, it's always been talked about as a collection of their 'classic' singles.

at U2.

It doesn't really surprise me, but it disappoints me. **sigh**

The UK version contains "I Will Follow" which is from Boy.

And retarded America is generally the reason Pop doesn't get as much credit as it should, unfortunately.

So that makes the special edition "UK19"?

I think the lack of POP is due more to U2's feelings about the album rather than its reception in the States. I mean, Edge dismisses "Do You Feel Loved" and "Gone" preeeeeeeeetty tersely in U2 by U2. (Thankfully, Bono's still proud of "Please.")

I have no idea. If you read the article linked above before the tracklist it says that the UK version will have I Will Follow.

While I have the book I haven't read it yet. But I know that in the past Edge has said Gone is one of his favorite songs to play live and since it's release it has, for him, been a reason to do live shows.

I also know that in the last couple of years the band has expressed it as they're bad release but Bono has also pointed out (several times) that the American reception of the album was rather poor and damaged the album and tour in a way. He's said it wasn't understood here in America as it was in other places throughout the world.

I am disappointed that they keep going back to it negatively though.

Ah, thanks - they've edited the article since I originally linked to it. It didn't mention "I will follow" before.

Hm, I wasn't planning on buying this. But I may have to get the special edition CD/DVD now. Damn you merchandising geniuses *shakes a fist*.

I seriously have a hard time believing this. It's not because of the song selection - I think it's dreadful, but nonetheless unsurprising. My problem is with the actual tracklist's order. It's so bloody dreadful, it looks as if a three year old was just given a list of songs and they threw them together haphazardly. Seriously, Vertigo --> With Or Without You? Stuck In A Moment --> Streets? Sunday Bloody Sunday --> One --> Desire? Elevation --> SYCMIOYO? That's just appalling. This collection has no cohesion whatsoever. I don't know how they expect anyone to listen to that jumbled, disorganised, incoherent mess.

And where the hell are the songs from Boy (excluding UK bonus track), October, Zooropa, and Pop?! How can they just discard FOUR of their albums, and Passengers too? And yet they still manage to have four songs from ATYCLB? Unbelievable. I cannot comprehend why ATYCLB gets the most songs. Even those of you who don't think it's U2's worst album would surely agree that hits like Discotheque (reached #10 in the US) are more significant than non-hits like Walk on (didn't reach the US Top 100) and have a far better claim to being on this compilation.
