How do you feel about random people getting selected to be in the oval?

As you might be able to tell by my mood, I hate the idea. I'm driving hundreds of miles and spending hundreds of dollars (hotels, travel) for each show to go see them. I am willing to sit on the sidewalk for hours to get close. Everything else in life is first come first serve. I am taking off work to go to there. I will be one VERY sad girl if I am banished to the back of the GA, far away from the boys I came all that way to see, and the guy who's swigging down beer after beer saying "Man Bo-no looks like CRAP" and wouldnt wait more than 5 minutes to see the band is up close. I mean if we're willing to wait in line, we should be able to reap the benefits of it. Bah. I'm just sad, cause waiting in line was actually kinda fun. Meeting people who love them as much as me, seeing random guys playing U2 on his guitar, homeless people asking for change....it was an adventure.

Review

You guys, I had to make a review about something for my English class.
Yeah, I'm Dutch. My review is about U2 :P (doh)

What do you think of this one? (any grammar mistakes or so, you know).
Since I'm dutch, I don't know many intellectual words or so, so I made this:

A review of 4 people who want to make the world a better place by making some noise called ‘’music’’.

Broad-minded, progressive and controversial. Does that work? I mean, in this world? With all those conservative people?

Well, you put together:

- 1 megalomaniac (in a positive way)
- 1 smart ass
- 1 tart
- 1 hammering drummer
- 1 beautiful tenor voice
- 1 echoïng guitar
- 1 fast driving bass
- 1 drumkit whose snare-drum always gets the hardest beats
- over 600 sold out concerts
- over 250 brilliant songs
- catchy tunes
- honest lyrics
- fighting for civil rights and fighting against poverty
- religion

Wait about 28 years, and there you have it: the correct ingredients for the best rock and roll band in the world ever; U2.
With songs like ‘’Sunday Bloody Sunday’’, ‘’The Fly’’, you may say it’s a band who wants to protest.
With songs like ‘’With or Without You’’, you may say it’s a band who wants to make extremely sweet songs.
With songs like ‘’Elevation’’, you may say it’s a band who wants to make only songs just for fun.
With songs like ‘’Desire’’, you may say it’s a band who wants to put the soul back into the music.
Some say it’s a submarine...
But you cannot put a finger on them. If you’re with some friends and you’re going to name some well known bands, pass U2! Or else you guys are struggling for hours.
It’s just that these guys don’t want to make the same as everybody else. They want to create a sound that’s different, a sound that fits to their own life, but also a sound that fits in the music scene of their time. Those guys are just so variated, with music and personality (clothes, merchandising etc.). If you listen to ‘’Boy’’ (wich is their first record), and ‘’Achtung Baby’’ (’91), you won’t recognize them anymore. If you see Bono with his mullet back in the mid 80’s, and then you’re gonna watch some live outtakes from the Zoo TV tour, you just won’t recognize the guy with the sunglasses (Er, well... Ok, you might, but you know what I mean).

The music is incredibly brilliant. If you listen to ‘’A Sort of Homecoming’’ and close your eyes, you see a whole landscape lying in front of you. So, The Edge can really make some masterpieces if you manage to make songs like that with your guitar. They always seem to make the right music with the lyrics. For example: ‘’Pride’’ is about Martin Luther King, someone who you can be proud of. Well, the music also sounds like pride!
Another example: ‘’Exit’’ is a song about someone who is running away from his life into the night and wants to kill himself. The music does give you a feeling that it is night. The vibration of the songs is dark, but sweltering, and o so still. And then, out of nothing, it’s heavy... Brilliant, every song reflects its own lyrics. If you manage to do that as a band, then you’re one of the best bands in the world.
I can talk for ages about them, there are many more things to talk about, about U2.

With scentences like: ‘’Religion is a club’’, ‘’Everything you know is wrong’’, ‘’Ambiton bites the nail of succes’’, it’s the most controversial band ever. Ok, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan were too. But a band who want’s to make the people more broad-minded, by making fun of the media and by getting angry, on the revolution and dying for the revolution back in Ireland, while playing Sunday Bloody Sunday (this song made more peace in Ireland. Now that’s what I call a band!). This band has more accomplished than any other band who talks about world peace and so.
And that’s the spirit of U2. To make the world and its people more broad-minded.

So, ‘’Hold it up, let it fly... Sing no more! No more!’’
Make the world a better place U2.

This talk of selectivism and the whole tour smacks of selling out and totally forgetting their fans. Larry's apology for all we know might've just been a PR move. I'm really worried about them. Maybe its all gotten to their heads, especially after the last tour being so successful. I got my ticket and I'll (grudingly perhaps) go see them but I doubt it'll have the same emotion, and feelings of awe, that it once did.

Worried, yes. Ready to throw in the towel? never.

Another question..

Hi everyone :)

I was wondering.. How many of u2's concerts have been aired on national radio? And which one's were they? A friend of mine mentioned there being one aired in the 80's that he would give his right limbs to have a copy of. So I was just curious.

Thanks for your responses in advance. :) x

Hey all, (again)
So whats this about the lottery, concerning places in line and all that? I've been in and out of the loop lately (just got moved into my new place) and I'm rather confused on what this lottery is...

Also, the hard metal card thing from the mail, is the "official u2 membership card," correct?

thanks all, hope you are all doing well!

Trade U2 Ticket/LA Shows

I just realized that I don't think I have posted this here!

Hiya!

One (1) Ticket-

The show I have is for 6-Ap. and wanted to trade for the 5-Ap show. The ticket is in section 210 and wanted to trade for something comparable (anything in the back 200's is fine (or better of course!)).

Please reply if you are interested in a TRADE ONLY!

Thanks!

ps. I love love love reading this community and what people are talking about. Everyone is like so nice (a complete opposite of the meanest community I read, the ipod community), it's soo great!

Song of The Day

Today's selection is

"Gloria" from October (1981)

Thoughts: It really sounds like Bono and the band are trying to find their sound with this song. It doesn't always succeed. But I really like the Catholic-oriented lyrics. It shows that they were on the road to developing the sound and depth that would be a commercial and critical success in The Joshua Tree. But other than the rest of the band providing backing vocals at the end of the track (just singing "Gloria" over and over), there's nothing that's particularly standout on "Gloria".

I don't know if other networks in other countries have done this, but TV1 (New Zealand channel) just played about three minutes of the opening night. Snippets from CoBL, Vertigo and the end of Vertigo as well as a pre-show interview.

"Asdfsdfs."

Part of the purpose of this post is to thank everyone who has been so wonderful uploading MP3s and videos and even full DVDs/Concerts. You people are incredible! I thank you all so much for sharing ^_^!

I must ask though, how do you do it? I have DVDs of stuff I'd be willing to upload/share/etc but I just don't know how it's done.

If this sort of thing isn't allowed please feel free to delete my post. I didn't know where else to ask!

Rumor: DVD Box Set on the Way?

Editor's Note: Interference.com member bonosleftone posted the following information today about a possible forthcoming box set. We are looking into this but, at this moment, it is unconfirmed. Stay tuned to Interference.com for updates.

There is apparently a box set being planned that is due for release in the next few months. I talked to a friend of mine at Universal and this is what will be in/on it, there should be an official announcement in the next couple of months.

The title is "The U2 Live Compendium"

Disc 1 - Red Rocks Complete
Disc 2 - Zoo TV Sydney
Disc 3 - Popmart Sarajevo
Disc 4 - Elevation Notre Dame

There will also be a 5 Disc box in a metal case like thing that has Dublin 12/31/89 as an additional disc. All discs have extra materials, clips from other gigs, interviews etc. ZooTv, Popmart, and the Elevation discs have PC material with stage schematics and 3D virtual crap.

Dont know release dates or anything but this is whats gonna be on there apparently.

sounds really badasssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!! it would be sweet to have Mexico City on dvd, but to have Sarajevo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Notre Dame!!!! U2 is actually putting out gems! I thought they would include the dvd version of the 1980-1990 videos on a dvd box set. hmmmmmm. still exciting news
