U2 pays millions in tax - Not Totally Exempt!

http://www.atu2.com/news/article.src?ID=3949

This info has been a long time coming; it's nothing most of us didn't know but also been a longtime "sore spot" for the critics of the band's activism to pick at... "well if they're so into raising money and supporting people in need why don't they pay taxes then??"

Well now here it is in black and white. Under the ATE they get about 1/3 of their income untaxed - their publishing and royalties. That leaves the remaining 2/3 of what they make - concert sales, for instance - and they pay millions of euros on it.

We have always known they are not that hypocritical. Now the critics will have to find another half-arsed half-truth to nitpick on... wonder what they'll find next?

Mad props to @U2 for publishing the story from The Independent

Song of the Day

Today's Selection is...

Sweetest Thing [The Single Mix] from the "Best of 1980-1990"

If there was ever a song to put a goofy looking smile on my face, it's this one. It doesn't really sound like u2 at all, but it's light and pretty and even has irregular clapping in the background. I wake up to the polyphonic tone of it on my mobile every morning.
The video is by far the most adorable thing ever. I would seriously forgive my guy for anything if he made a video like that for me. Or even write a song like this. Elephant. Come on. Riverdance! Firefighters dancing on a fire truck!
Bono looks weird in the video, coming off a bit like Elvis Costello. I didn't even realize it was him until midway through it.
The story is that Bono spent a day in the recording studio. The day just also happened to be his Ali's (his wife) birthday. Oops. So he wrote this song for her as the biggest I'M SORRY ever.

Favorite Line: You can sew it up, but you still see the tear.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Oh he's earned it.

On a completely different note: Isn't it great when you find a normally anti-social family member who is a secret u2 fan at a boring family party?
XD

I'll be tagging all SotD entries with "song of the day". Naturally.

it was a cool C35° on a sunday afternoon in london...

people were sweating, ladies were wearing not alot, and a dangerous vision was unavoidable; the topless english male.

after getting over the slight dissapointment of being strapped with a yellow wristband rather than the holy orange variety, the 3 northampton travellers entered the stadium of twickenham, to be welcomed by a little sweaty scottish man from the band idlewild singing his heart out.

A casual look around, a beer or two later, and another band (not as sweaty, but with noticeable moistness) from Northern Ireland, Ash (from gran turismo on playstation fame) decided to play some tunes.

It was all a jolly affair.

also u2 played. it was good.

Seattle II

Has anyone got artwork for the Seattle II show? I've got the bootleg and want to send it to a friend who was at that show; just need cover and inlay artwork. If someone can either post directly, or show me where I can find it, would be very much appreciated. :)

Heartland

I've just recently re-discovered this little ditty while listening to Rattle and Hum. I was wondering....Has this song ever been played live?
For bonus points, if it has, what dates?

Just got back from Twickenham - one of the most amazing experiences of my life, but you don't need me to go on about how great U2 shows are... i'm sure you all know that already :)

Anyways, I wanted to share some pictures all from the second show - they're pretty good because I was at the front so had a good view (although some are a little shakey... it's difficult to jump, sing, scream AND take photos at the same time). A warning to dial-up users - they're huge.

Countdown to Glasgow!

Well folks, there's only 17h 31mins left till the Hampden gig! Are many people from the community going and if so, is a meetup in order once everybody's got their number in the queue sorted?

Peace, Grum
