[conan] - HP

Song of the Day

Today's Selection is...

New York from "All That You Can't Leave Behind"

I was ditched for New York yesterday, so I know exactly what Bono is talking about in this song.
:/
This was one of my favorite songs from the album back in 2001. And I could never pinpoint why. It's slipped somewhat in my favorites category from ATYCLB.
It has an airy feel to it. I can almost picture standing in the subway watching the train and people go by in fast motion. It's probably just what I feel the music video would look like if there was a music video.
I can only imagine what it was like to live in NY after 9/11 and have so many songs on the ATYCLB album so perfectly match the mood. SIAMYCGOO, Walk On and then New York.
u2 has a way of doing that.
Favorite lyrics:
Irish, Italian, Jews and Hispanics
Religious nuts, political fanatics in the stew,
Living happily not like me and you
That's where I lost you... New York

    u2 - new york

Sometimes you can't make it on your own...

Today, my dad's been dead six years.

Tough, you think you've got the stuff
You're telling me and anyone
You're hard enough

You don't have to put up a fight
You don't have to always be right
Let me take some of the punches
For you tonight

Listen to me now
I need to let you know
You don't have to go it alone

And it's you when I look in the mirror
And it's you when I don't pick up the phone
Sometimes you can't make it on your own

We fight all the time
You and I... that's alright
We're the same soul
I don't need... I don't need to hear you say
That if we weren't so alike
You'd like me a whole lot more

Listen to me now
I need to let you know
You don't have to go it alone

And it's you when I look in the mirror
And it's you when I don't pick up the phone
Sometimes you can't make it on your own

I know that we don't talk
I'm sick of it all
Can you hear me when I Sing,
you're the reason I sing
You're the reason why the opera is in me

Where are we now?
I've got to let you know
A house still doesn't make a home
Don't leave me here alone

And it's you when I look in the mirror
And it's you that makes it hard to let go
Sometimes you can't make it on your own
Sometimes you can't make it
The best you can do is to fake it
Sometimes you can't make it on your own

BOOM goes the dynamite

Another funky introduction...

Hey there ^_^ Long time lurker of this community, finally thought it was about time I actually posted. I basically grew up on U2 - being born in the late 80s it was inevitable - but only realised who they were in about 1998, when I saw the video for The Sweetest Thing. Am going to lose my "U2 Virginity" next week when me and a few friends go and see them live in Cardiff. One of these friends is mad about the band, and seems very thankful I let her borrow my U2 CDs! In return, she gave me the Best of: 1990-2000 DVD, which I love ^_^

Anyway, was just wondering: Has anyone ever read the fake U2 mission? Funny stuff ^_^

'Although the band would not be visible for most of their concert, we tried to make them look as much like U2 as possible. There were several obstacles to over come. Firstly, our “The Edge” was a Korean-American:'
