Bono & Tom

Q Awards

U2 picked up two Q Awards last night - The Edge won the Innovation In Sound Award, and the band also won the Q Award Of Awards: Band Of Bands ("for polling most votes from Q readers through the history of the Q Awards"). Nice work... it was obvious they were going to win *something*, as they never bother turning up for these ceremonies unless there's a gong to collect. ;)

"This will be our last Q Awards" states Larry Mullen...
^-- This news item on the Q website nearly gave me a heart attack until I opened up the article:
"This will be our last Q Awards" states U2 sticksman Larry Mullen as the band accept The Award of Awards. "Because we can't afford to fly The Edge over from LA." Bono intervenes to give a rather more eloquent thank you.
Grrr! ;p

I don't think these awards are usually televised, but if anyone knows better, please let us know channels & dates!

(no subject)

This was in The Fitz Files a column in the Sydney Sun Herald on Sunday, I've only just gotten around to posting it now. It may or may not have actually happened, but I was amused. You'd honestly had to have no sense of humour, if you don't see the joke in it...

Three months ago, U2 are at the height of a sell-out concert in Glasgow, when Bono asks the audience for total quiet. When silence is achieved, he starts to slowly clap his hands. Now, while continuing to clap his hands together, he leans forward and says portentously into the microphone: "Everytime I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies." A voice from near the front pierces the silence: "Well, fookin' well stop doing it then."
