So I'm watching Conan O'Brien last night...

...and the Kooks come on to play a song from their forthcoming album.

Now, it might have been that I was only half-awake at the time, but when I squinted, the lead singer and guitarist reminded me of Bono and The Edge -- but from two different U2 eras!

The singer has hair and gestures similar to (but not as wild as) Boy era Bono, while the guitarist's got this strange "Bob Dylan mates with The Joshua Tree era Edge" feel to him.

Like I said, it could just be me. Check out the video of the Kook's performance and let me know what you think:

Hey, can I ask a favor? Y'all know those U2 remixes sent out to Propaganda members around the time of Zooropa/Pop (Melon, Orange, Kiwi...)?? Does anyone have a list of all of those, as well as the track listing? I'm curious about those. I have tons of remixes and would like to organize them, since I'm sure a few of them belong on those albums. Thanks!

Also, I anybody else catch Tyra Banks today? Trista Sutter (The Bachlorette) was on there, and she had her baby with her, and he was wearing the ADO(RED) onesie. I thought it was adorable (no pun intended haha). One day I'll have kids and a reason to buy those dang things as well.

Album recording update.

Canoe (Canadian Online Explorer), a Canadian news site has recently spoken with Daniel Lanois (our favourite U2-producing Canuck), and the short article (which can be viewed here) offers some brief tidbits on the current recording, and the possible sound of the forthcoming U2 album:

U2 going 'electro' on new album

By JASON MacNEIL - Special to Sun Media

Although releasing the documentary film Here Is What Is on DVD next month, as well as a CD of the same name, musician and acclaimed producer Daniel Lanois is probably packing his bags now. On Monday, he's off to Dublin to begin recording with U2 on their next studio album, the follow-up to 2004's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.

"I'm going to work with them in a week," Lanois says from Los Angeles.

"We've had a few very successful jam sessions so far, including one in Morocco. I'm very excited about what we're doing. Everyone has an appetite for breaking new ground and everybody wants to make a masterpiece.

"We're not taking anything for granted. We don't think it's going to be easy. In fact, it's always hard work and I like it that way. When the work is hard, you know you're busting through something that hasn't been done before."

As for the direction U2's album is headed, Lanois is brief in describing the record, which should be out this fall.

"I can tell you a little bit about the fundamental quality," he says. "It's very much hand-played but it's also electro."

Electro? Interesting....
