Interesting comments @ 09:51 pm

rockingthemike:
Was reading a review of the U2 By U2 book in my local arts magazine. The reviewer made one comment about Pop and quoted the band on another about the same album:

  • The reviewer rather tongue in cheek made a reference that Pop was the most expensive demo album ever made
  • The band (presumably Bono), made the claim that given the themes found within the song, that the album should have perhaps been better named "Shouting at God".

    Very interesing perspectives...

Edge actually made the comment about it being the most expensive demo session ever, how right he is.

Oops, that's my bad then. The article made it seem as though the reviewer had made that comment himself.

Uh-huh. Pop is certainly my "shouting at God" music at the moment...

I hadn't actually thought of the albums in those terms before, but it's definitely present; especially in songs like "Wake Up Dead Men", "Please", "If God Will Send His Angels", "Mofo" and to a big extent "Do You Feel Loved".

Well, there's half the album mentioned right off the bat. *laughs*

Really a demo? I wish I could produce a demo like that.

I wish I could produce a demo with 10% of the quality Pop had. ;)

Very interesting. Makes me want to go back and listen to October (their other pseudo religious album) and Pop back to back.
