A Challenge @ 03:40 pm

mmmmjournal:
Maybe this has been done before, but maybe not.

Write a story incorporating as many U2 song or album titles as possible.

The more creative, the better. But try to include a plot.

Er, I did this in this very community about 3 1/2 years ago... gosh, I'd forgotten all about that!

I read a very good story about 6 years ago on the internet that did that. :-)

This is SO not a response to the challenge, but I made an away message about a year ago using all the titles of Achtung Baby- it's so lame, but I love it just the same.

I may move in mysterious ways, but I'm not the only one trying to throw my arms around the world. I've never been to Zoo Station, but I hear it's even better than the real thing. He told me that, but he's so cruel just like an acrobat. I'll tell ya, that one, he's like the fly. He asked me, "Who's gonna ride your wild horses until the end of the world?" I told him there was only one man for the job, but love is blindness so he'll never see. He replied and said, "It's ultraviolet, baby. All I need is someone to light my way."

I did a story (which actually ended up in my college's art-literary magazine -- woo!) that referenced a handful of U2 songs, but mostly lyrics that a non-fan would find pretty obscure.

In example:
But tonight? Bliss: a big mess of people hurtling – a few stumbling – through the spirals and turns of the thirties. Their bodies are all soaked for now, but they’ll shake off like dogs soon enough.

As in "Don't believe in rock 'n' roll / Can really change the world / As it spins in revolution, baby / It spirals and turns" from God Part II.

I also have a character say, "You're dreaming out loud!" and, later, "...All I’ve done is put you in the black." (à la la la la la la la Lady with the Spinning Head) -- weird stuff like that.

If anyone's interested in reading the whole thingamajig, there's a pdf of the magazine up at http://www.dowling.edu/mydowling/announce/riverrun06.pdf -- check out "Coming Clean on page 44.
