Hello Hello!!

February 5th, 2007

So what's the deal with this ad? @ 02:14 pm

hawkmoon268:
Hi everyone,
I assume many of you have seen the 'Es o no es Bono?' Ford ad . General consensus seems to be it's not Bono. This raises the question though of did Bono grant permission for this ad, or did he ask to have it removed (perhaps that's why the link on U2log.com no longer works), or neither? I can't imagine he'd be off endorsing car companies now, with or without a personal appearance in the ad...
And what's with the website given near the end of the ad? I went to it, and there was just a pic of the band...what's that about?
What do y'all think?

It's not Bono- it's an imitator whose name escapes me, though I think it's mentioned somewhere in comments on the original linked post. Maybe?

First off all, that's an awesome commercial. =]
LOL.

Hmm... Well, it's so weird because it's not recent Bono. It's like, a year ago Bono. With more hair. That's a little weird..

I didn't go to the website [time crunch] ...
was it a commercial during the superbowl in Mexico?
...

That was probably the most idiotic question ever.

I don't know if they showed it during the Superbowl in Mexico or not, but it's not a stupid question because they do show the game in something like 170 countries and I'm sure Mexico is one of them.

Nobody watches it outside this one, though. ;)

No kidding. I think the only games that are watched worldwide is the Olympics and the World Cup.

one word:

Money.

I had a cool idea for the Edge to actually do a car commercial for Ford Edge. My friends thought it was funny.

I was thinking when I saw the Ford commercial that it would be funny if SNL did a parody of it, using the same copy, "Life with the Edge is never boring," or whatever the slogan was, but just have one of their actors be Edge just going through his everyday life. But sadly, SNL isn't funny enough to pull it off anymore, I don't think.

Too bad the Ford Edge didn't exist when they filmed "A Day in the Life of Edge"--you know they would've had fun with it!

Hahaha. And I don't think any of the actors look like Edge.. Unless they had a guest star that resembled him ... Hahaha.

I'm sure Edge owns an Edge. ...

*facepalm.

I don't think you have to ask permission to use an impersonator.

Use their actual likeness, on the other hand...

Since it is an impersonator and they never actually say "Bono" so its legal.

The commercial is hilarious, and the guy in it named Pavel, who is a professional Bono impersonator *no comment* :-\
