Hello Hello!!

February 7th, 2007

Weekday Whatever @ 10:04 pm

I forgot what I named this weekly thing last time! Oh well, not important. I also forgot to post last week, but that's not really my fault, given the billion things I have to do for uni. Who said being in 4th year was fun? (Uh, no one, apparently.)

Anyway, here's one I prepared earlier because my brain has turned to mushy stuff. I asked this of lydia_petze in an LJ entry once, and I like it so I'm going to ask it here.

If you could make up a U2 album using one track from every album, how would it look?

Only one track from each album, but you can include Under A Blood Red Sky, Wide Awake In America, the Best Of compilations, U218... heck, even Passengers. These in addition to your standard albums are allowed because there's more to choose from and it's fuuuuun! Rearrange the tracks into any running order you like. Nothing extra! Oh and I suppose if you want to use the B-side compilations found on the Best Ofs, you can. Because I'm nice like that. :D

I know, not quite as debatable a question as my last one, but as I said, I've been too busy this week to notice. Dickens, Trollope and Old English stuff is eating my brain, I swear.

Is that the one that U2.com members got or something? If so, then no, because I'm not a member and it just wouldn't be fair. ;)

I'm grasping for straws because City of Blinding Lights is just so much better live. And now I have to choose between that and Original of the Species for my HTDAAB track. *sigh*

Okay, I've gone a bit overboard probably, but here's mine, title and all. I've avoided the big hits pretty much and gone with personal favourites (though I've left some out).

Out of Control (Boy)
Gloria (October)
Two Hearts Beat As One (war)
The Unforgettable Fire
Red Hill Mining Town
God, Part II
Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
Miss Sarajevo
The Ground Beneath Her Feet
Original of the Species
All I Want Is You (best of 1980's)
Summer Rain ("7")
Until the End of the World (best of 1990's)
Beautiful Day (U218)

I wanted to go with something besides the two big singles from "War." Therefore it was either Two Hearts or 40.

I actually can't decide between any of the songs on "The Unforgettable Fire" album.... I really do like all of the songs equally.

It's a different level for "Joshua Tree," where asking me to pick my favorite song from that album is like asking me to choose between food or oxygen. "In God's Country" or "Trip Through Your Wires" would have been nice choices too, even "Spanish Eyes" or "Silver and Gold" (which I consider to be a part of any proper JT album).

"Numb" or "Dirty Day" would have been good from Zooropa.

"Your Blue Room" is great, but alas, only room for one "Passenger" here...

Your JT dilemma is the same as my AB one. ARGH!

There is no rhyme or reason to my list... just a new playlist, I suppose.
I chose songs that are not necessarily THE favorite from each album, but up there, and I tried to be original. We'll see. :P

Mofo (Pop)
Seconds (War)
Hallelujah Here She Comes (Best of 80-90)
In A Little While (ATYCLB)
Tomorrow (October)
God, Pt. 2 (R&H)
Theme from the Swan (Passengers)
Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses (Achtung Baby)
In God's Country (JT)
Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car (Zooropa)
Wire (UF)
Big Girls Are Best (7)
North and South of the River (Best of 90-00)
Another Time, Another Place (Boy)
Yahweh (HTDAAB)

This is beyond amazing for an idea! Not only do I get to dig through lots of U2 goodies, but the playlist I've come up with will be doubling as part of my hubby's Vday present(he's the reason I'm a U2 addict). I saw this post soon after it was put up, it just took me this long to finalize a playlist. Having to choose only ONE song from greats like The Joshua Tree and Rattle & Hum drove me NUTS!!! On the other hand, I could spend days playing with U2(pun FULLY intended). My one complaint, is that the live version of Exit from the R&H video should have been put on the album. The extended live version is pure sex.
Note: I didn’t pick one from Under A Blood Red Sky b/c I wanted an all-album list.

Title: Unforgettable Velvet Blindness

The Unforgettable Fire
An Cat Dubh
Original of the Species
In A Little While
Two Hearts Beat As One
Electrical Storm
Mysterious Ways
If You Wear That Velvet Dress
Love Is Blindness

Hee, I know, choosing is ridiculously difficult and it makes you want to tear your hair out. That's why this game is so fun! I'm going to post mine eventually, once I figure it out myself...

Ooh. It'd depend what exactly you're aiming for (e.g. are you creating it to give someone a flavour of each album? are you trying to create something with an overall mood or story?)... but I guess the easiest method is to just pick my favourite track from each album and try to find a decent running order for them!  Here goes:

1. The Unforgettable Fire
2. One
3. God Part II
4. New Year's Day
5. Red Hill Mining Town
6. Lemon
7. A Day Without Me
8. Do You Feel Loved
9. Gloria
10. Your Blue Room
11. Love And Peace Or Else
12. In A Little While

Wow, that'd be a pretty eclectic album. :D  I think it'd be kinda cool though!

I like those!

Themed playlists might be a cool idea for a post sometime, y'know.

Funny, at first I was just picking a song per album, or in some cases two or three where I couldn't choose (planning to narrow it down after I had a full list), and then I realized I had mostly picked the most moody songs, so I ended up with a theme.
The way I arranged them almost seems like the second half of a bigger picture. It starts out really meloncholic, and then about halfway through begins to take a change. Love (be it romantic love or Godly love, or whatever), steps in to change everything for the better, and everything ends on a positive note.

Shadows and Tall Trees
Love is Blindness
Running to Stand Still
One Step Closer
The Unforgettable Fire
Love Rescue Me
Drowning Man
The First Time
Walk On
Date:February 10th, 2007 11:19 pm (UTC)
Until the End of the World
God Part II
Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
Out of Control
I Will Follow (Under a Blood Red Sky)
Two Hearts Beat as One
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
I Fall Down
Summer Rain
Your Blue Room
Dancing Barefoot
Original of the Species
Running to Stand Still
Walk On
Window in the Skies
Bad (Wide Awake in America)

Does the soundtrack to MDH count? *grins* If so, I'd add The Ground Beneath Her Feet to that. This was ... interesting. Good idea!
