Project on U2 @ 03:06 pm

sarah1313:
Hi! I haven't posted here before but I wanted to get some peoples opinions on a project I'm doing for my American Popular Music class. We have to do 40 minute presentations on a band that influenced American music, and I of course choose U2. We have to have 2 or 3 songs and visual aids to go with it, and I wanted to get peoples opinions on songs they think it would be good to use. I was thinking about using either Miracle Drug, Original of the Species, Bullet the Blue sky, or Love and Peace or Else from the Chicago Vertigo DVD for a video, and then playing Suday Bloody Sunday, Streets Have no Name, Exit, One Tree Hill, or Pride in the name of love for a song. Any suggestions?

Can it be live versions? Because if so, you might want to use either Sunday Bloody Sunday or Exit from the Rattle & Hum documentary. They aren't on the Rattle & Hum cd, but I have both tracks and can share them if you want.

Yeah live versions would work too. I was planning on asking my teacher if he had a copy of rattle and hum I could see, so I'll check those out. Thanks!

Also, as far as Rattle & Hum goes, you might be able to rent the video at one of your local video stores. I know my hubby and I rented it at Hollywood Video a couple of times before I found a copy at a used cd/movie place.

anytime. i'm such a Joshua Tree freak. :-P

if it were me, I'd be using "Exit" from R&H as a visual, mainly b/c it's SEXY as hell. But I think something from the Vertigo dvd will work well, b/c it's their latest tour.

i hope the mp3s help. keep us posted! i'd love to know what you end up going with. :)

we also have the U2 by U2 that came out not too long ago. between the two books, there are enough pictures to satisfy ANY u2 fan. LOL

If you want to talk about how U2 influenced American music, you need to talk about Joshua Tree. Joshua Tree was released in 1987, during the height of the Hair Band era, and Joshua Tree was a completely different sound at the time. The album influenced many 90's artists, including Pearl Jam and Creed.

If I were doing a project abut people who influenced American music, I'd chose Chuck Berry. But that's just me.

Joshua Tree is definetly going to be a main focus of mine, and I'm definetly going to use at least one song from that album. As for Chuck Berry, another student in my class is doing him.
