Not for nothin, but...

...Dublin is most certainly NOT in the UK.

Perhaps you meant "Europe".
Or "Ireland and the UK".

Yeah, it seems like a bit of over-reacting in that comment. Correcting or giving more info or whatever is fine, but yeah, seemed a bit melodratic...

Maybe. But the OP can look at it in a possitive light. He wont be making the same mistake in Dublin, which wouldn't go down well at all. :)

As for the questions at hand..

I've done Dublin more times than I care to remember. Tho I'm lucky in that I'm only two hours away. :)

Don't bother with the clarance. Save yer money. Plenty of good hotels or hostels in Dublin. Unless you've got money to throw away of course.

A visit to Bono's house is worth it for the train journey alone. In fact its probably the only reason to go, as you see very little of Bono's house. A trip down to the beach is rather cool tho.

Hanover is shaping up quite nicely now. Was there in January. U2 have there own spar shop, well worth a visit if your looking to bump into Bono whilst shopping for yer quavers & Irn Bru! :)

Its across from the studio. Its the most pointless spar I've ever seen. It had obviously just opened when I was there. I'm guessing there expecting allot more developments in the area. As I don't see who else would use it, apart from U2 staff/stalkers.

Save your money as far as accommodations go, and then slip into the Clarence/Octagon for drinks if you want to hang out there. They do fantastic cocktails, tho they are pretty pricey.

the rooms are quite small (as most european hotels go), and while nice, really not worth the money that could easily go for other things. if you need any detail or advice about anything under that @U2 link, feel free to ask. i've spent quite a lot of time in dublin over the years.

I remember my trip to Ireland. Clanrence wasnt there at the time. It was in 89. Have fun! I would love to go now and stay there.

I'm Irish and live here in Dublin. anything in particular you want to know? :)

also - the Clarence is nice to hang out in, but you could stay somewhere else quite good and definitely use the money on other things...

Clarence

(Link)
After a very long Irish and UK-ish trip, where I crashed with friends and stayed in hostels, I decided to splurge and the very last day I spent at the Clarence. Also ate at the Tea Room. I have never spent so much money on a hotel stay in my life, and it was worth every penny. Will definitely do it again.

The Clarence has some nice specials if you stay mid-week, also I emailed the reservations office and gave them some B.S. about finding a special on a travel site and would they honor the price of 200 E.U. for the night, as I did not want to give this random website my credit card info. They said yes (SCORE!!!). Considering their rooms start at 500 E.U. I did pretty good.

Also, their bathtubs are GORGEOUS, I only spent one night, but took 2 baths :D
