Faintly Creepy Buying Suggestion @ 08:23 am

fiveandfour:
Lately I've been receiving buying suggestions from Amazon, a la "we noticed you bought this, so you might like that". I find the whole concept half helpful and half creepy (with a dash of funny with the connections they've made a few times).

Today's suggestion was something called More in Sorrow than in Anger. I've never heard of this, the Amazon description isn't very thorough, and I couldn't locate the referenced imdb page.

It's obviously not official U2 material...have any of you a clue as to what this is supposed to be about?

CD Universe description in full, FWIW:

U2's socially conscious sound brings a stadium-size presence to alt-rock, with Bono's expressive vocals and the Edge's distinct guitar lines interacting seamlessly with the rhythm section of bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. This unauthorized biography chronicles the band's triumphant career through rare archival footage and interviews with friends and colleagues.

Unauthorized = suspicious, IMO. :P

I suspect Amazon's recommendations bot is powered by crack.

It's called data mining... and it is scary stuff. Walmart has turned it into high black magic (they know what you buy when you buy and what you return and buying habits down to the minute.)

Kinda' legitimizes the conspiracy theorists, doesn't it?

I was at Victoria's Secret the other day and they asked for my phone number when I was making my purchase. I asked for the purpose of giving that information. "For tracking purposes...we don't call you or anything." Ummm, no thank you. The cashier looked insulted when I refused, but ask me if I give a rat's patoot about that.

(My husband and I watched Fast Food Nation a week or so ago and there was a bit in there about how cashiers at fast food restaurants record what they think is your gender, race and age. Scary!)

Well, I don't know what it is, but I enjoy the title. Though I'm not quite sure what the Ghost in Hamlet has to do with U2...
