I'm currently feelin: excited excited

Okay, so in case you hadn't heard U2 filmed several Vertigo tour shows in South America (as well as extra footage in Australia) with special 3D cameras, in preperation for a theatrical release of a 3D concert film.

Well, the trailer is now available on YouTube (via U2.com):

Of course, this is just a 2D YouTube video, but the trailer has also been making the rounds in theaters showing other 3D movies, and from the testimonals of those few that have seen it, it's stunning. Don't forget, this isn't the 3D of red-and-blue cellophane lenses that we grew up with, this is high-tech stuff (I actually saw Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds in high-tech 3D, and it scared the crap out of me, I imagine viewing a 3d U2 concert will be a much more pleasant experience).
But I'd also like to point out that, even in 2D, this trailer looks to be shot and directed very nicely. I'm excited about it. Excited enough about it to be willing to take a trip out of town just to see it, when the time comes.

This is 3D digital, ala "Meet the Robinsons", right? Not Imax or something like that. I wonder how big of a release this is going to have.

Correct 3D Digital, in fact the trailer premiered before a showing of Meet the Robinsons (which is slightly strange, considering I don't think the two share much of the same audience)

Even though it's not Imax, do you think Imax theaters will show it? The closest Imax theater is an hour and a half away...but it will def. be worth the drive. Otherwise, I'm not sure if it will be shown around here...(I live outside of Youngstown, Ohio, which is a dying corpse of a city.)

I don't know if it'll be shown in IMAX theaters, everything I've heard has pointed to RealD theaters, which are actually more common than IMAX, but that doesn't mean it won't be shown in IMAX as well.

You can locate RealD theaters here:

OMG me too. Seeing the trailer is just NOT enough. I don't think I can wait until the fall for it. I want it to come out like, tomorrow. That trailer is a fucking tease!

*sigh* Guess it's back to watching the Vertigo DVD on repeat...

Ooo, yes! I don't even have to watch the trailer to get re-excited for this! I saw Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D and it was really really cool. The only problem is that the two theaters that had it are both 45 min away (from where I am in Minneapolis! You'd think there'd be something closer than far-out suburbs...), but hey, it's worth a trip.

That's awesome! Good for me that I'll be able to watch it here in Tampa at a theater I often go to.
