Here's a blurb from the web page:
From March 22nd through May 6th, the African Well Fund invites U2 fans and others who are inspired by Bono's tireless activism on behalf of Africa to make a donation in honor of Bono's birthday on May 10th. Your donation in the amount of $100, $75, $40, or whatever you can afford, will go a long way in helping to provide clean water for the people of Africa. Donations from the four previous campaigns totaled over $80,000 and have been used by our partner Africare to fund well projects in Uganda, Ethiopia, Angola and Zimbabwe, and our current well projects are underway in Uganda, Sierra Leone and Rwanda.
As part of the campaign, there is a U2 photo auction with some fabulous pictures up for sale! A lot of them are from the Vertigo tour, but there are some older ones, including a few of Red Rocks. I've seen some Joshua Tree and ZooTV pics in there, too, along with Elevation and Pop. All proceeds benefit AWF directly. (I think I'm going to go broke from bidding on so many of them! *g*)
For those of you who want to make sure you're not throwing your money away on an internet scam, AWF is registered as a 501(c)3 non-profit. It was started by U2 fans who were inspired by Bono's work in Africa, and I personally think it's a fabulous organization. I hope you'll all check it out!
