Hello Hello!!

New Member and a few questions! @ 10:16 pm

tlxrevolution:
Hey I'm a new member, but i've watched the community for almost a year now, aside from being a u2 fan for yeaars I've seen U2 twice (elevation and vertigo tours)

I was just wondering how many of you here have heard the song "mercy" (the cut song from the atomic bomb sessions i believe). My appologies if there's already been a discussion on this before. What are all your thoughts on it? I ripped an mp3 of it last summer from a spanish podcast and i think it's an absolutely amazing song. I'd really like to see a form (a more polished form) end up on a future u2 cd. I think it'd be a really big hit. Do any of you think it'll end up an U2 record in the future?

My other question is what album is the single or studio version of 11 o clock tick tock from? I have Under A Blood Red Sky and i love the live version of this song, but where can i get a studio version of it, and is it as good?

I'm looking foward to a new album with a new direction from the band this year! (Hopefully back into Pop Territory)

Thanks!
-Tim

I believe 11 O'Clock Tick Tock was its own single back in 1980, and is now pretty darn collectible. :) I think it's only available on vinyl, and I don't have it. :(

I love Mercy, I think it's a fantastic song. However, I think it's got a pretty 'How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb' feel to it, so I'd be surprised if it showed up on another album. That would rock, though.

Thanks for the info. I noticed on itunes they have the single in that huge U2 complete collection. I'd buy that except i already have all the live and studio albums and most of the rarities.

You're right about mercy having an atomic bomb feel to it. Who knows if they'll redevelop it though. Maybe it'll show up on a future best of (like a best of 2000-2010 or something. hah)

Yeah, I'd love to see U2 go back into Pop territory, or something more experimental for their next album. Considering how successful their past two have been, I think they've earned the right to try something really risky.

Yeah certainly with U2 having auditioned for the top band in the world (and got it with the past 2 albums) i think they can afford to do some more experimental stuff. I don't even care if critics don't like it, Pop is my second favorite U2 album. The closest we got on the last album was 'love and peace or else' (that song, when i saw it live here in atlanta, was really really good). I feel like a few of the songs on pop could have been elaborated or added to, but other than that it's darn near perfect. Either way, a risk wouldn't hurt them. I wish we'd get some new album news though. Don't we always hear that the edge is on fire with his guitar? This time I hope the edge goes really crazy. :)

Welcome to the comm! :)
Totally agree about hoping the band try something a bit more adventurous with the next album. As much as I adore HTDAAB, I'm craving some U2 randomness now. *g*

The studio version of Tick Tock is pretty good, yes. Unfortunately all I have is a somewhat crackly MP3 that ends really abruptly, or a WMA that sounds better but fades out even earlier!

There's a Song Of The Day thread about Mercy if you're interested in reading the comments that were posted there. (Link is on the left-hand side if you're looking at the community page.)
