I'm currently feelin: optimistic optimistic

You may have heard that U2 were recording a cover of John Lennon's Instant Karma for an upcoming compilation of Lennon covers (due out next month).

Well now, due to Warner Bros. online store, we can listen to 30 second samples of all of the songs:

A RealPlayer is required, but for those who don't have a RealPlayer, etc., here's an mp3 upload of the 30 second clip of U2's Instant Karma cover:

It sounds pretty awesome to me, although I am a wee bit biased as I was a big Instant Karma fan to begin with =)

It sounds pretty awesome to me too, though I may be biased for the same reason. :) Thanks for uploading the MP3 version!

Thanks for posting about this. It brings back the memories when U2 and Patti Smith sang Instant Karma at MSG. Having a studio version of this will be nice though.

it sounds good but i cant help comparing it to the live version done at the portland vertigo show... which leaves this version somewhat flat.

Eee!  I'm always wary of 30-second clips these days, but that does sound great!

I thought Aerosmith's cover of Give Peace a Chance rocked! U2 were fab of course, goes without saying.

I love "Instant Karma" (well, pretty much anything that John Lennon touched), so as soon as I heard that U2 was covering it, it was like heaven on earth. It was one of my favorites on the album too, along with Postal Service, Jackson Browne, and Flaming Lips, who all managed to take songs that I've never really dug and make them good. Avril Lavigne's "Imagine" and that dreadful emo crap's "God" made me want to claw out my eardrums, though.

(Also, I'm new to this community and LJ in general. Could anyone just give me some pointers on how to navigate this... err... vast interwebs jungle?)

Welcome! Anything in particular confusing you? (I know the default LJ site scheme is horrendous to navigate - you might want to check out the alternatives if you're not already aware of them!)

Ooo! Alternatives! I did not know about that! Thanks!

I dunno if there's anything specific, I'm just always very shy on the internet. Which is weird, 'cause I'm the opposite in real life and online people can't even see me. I think I just need a bit of time to dip my toes in the water, so to speak. :)
