Nothing like that, actually, the theater wasn't that full (if I remember correctly). It was just huge on the big screen, in a way that made everything cool and larger than life.

And now I'll date myself and talk about how I went to see it when it first came out and the theater was so packed that I ended up just a few rows back from the screen. Talk about about gloryness~it was fantastic!

The atmosphere was similar to that of a concert in that there was the air of excitement, but also that particular thing that U2 fans do where they are nice to one another and share stories and compare notes. You know what I mean? I've seen other bands in concert and for every other band there's like this strain of competition for getting in the door first, or gumpiness at standing in line for t-shirts - but I've never experienced that at a U2 concert. Instead it's people talking to one another and being cool when conflicts come up.

Anyway, it was kind of like that. It was great seeing the film in the theater because of the big screen and big speakers which, though we play it loud at home, is not quite the same.

This was also the time when a lot of new people were discovering U2 so there was that half angst/half pride going on for the longer-term fans where we were glad people were coming to appreciate how good they were, yet unhappy that they were no longer our special secret from the world.

I'm getting excited for the next one which I hear they're releasing in theaters - I think it's going to be a similarly fun experience.

great story! I went to my first U2 show in NYC for vertigo and the vibe i got from people were a laied back one. it was rather cool. this fall should be a good time bc of the new U2 film and the Rolling Stones film1 so 2 "concerts" going on!
