Walk On @ 10:36 pm

mcfrye:
I have a question for you all:

Which version of 'Walk On' do you prefer? The version released on the All That You Can't Leave Behind or the much shorter single version with the Hallelujah chorus at the end?

Okay, I really had to think about this, but the single version won by a hair. I do quite like that Hallelujah chorus at the end.

I like both, but the "hallelujah"s make me feel uncomfortable about enjoying it in the presence of others (since they might think I'm Christian-y or something...?). I feel like I have to get defensive about my U2 love sometimes (because of all the Christian lyrical phrases and such), y'know? ;)
Actually, when thinking about it, I do like the album version a little more, because of the very beginning and also all the "all that you..."s to fade out--I've always liked that.

Album by a long shot. That guitar solo is one of my very favorite moments in music ever.

Album version, by far. The first time I heard the single version, I think my reaction was "WTF DID THEY DO TO WALK ON?!" I hated it. The whole mix just sounded messy for lack of a better term. I like the hallelujahs at the end, but that's about the only thing I like about the single version.

I like the Hallelujah's because that's how they played it live. And there's nothing like hearing it live.

the album version. but I do love the Hallelujah chorus just as much..... difficult. But if I had to decide, I'd go for the album version.

one of their best songs ever, imho ;-)

I am not going to answer, because Walk On is on my annoying list ATM, but my husband said he'd fill in for me. :)

He likes the album version best, mainly because of something or other about Edge's guitar parts. I didn't pay attention lol.

The Hallelujah bit sounded nice when they first performed it live, but I thought the single version of the song was horrible - the one on the album is miles better.

You're all wrong! I prefer the live version with Peace on Earth in the beginning, the guitar solo and the Hallelujahs, plus the whole "heeearrrttt in your souuuullll" ending. Gahhhh. That's the sh*t right there.
