Hello Hello!!

Pavarotti: there's a rock 'n' roll star... @ 12:17 pm

canadanne:
I'm currently feelin: sad sad

What sad news that Luciano Pavarotti has died. I'm sure Bono will have a few words to say later, if he hasn't already. I can remember joyfully singing along to Nessun Dorma (despite having no idea of the lyrics) as a 7-year-old child during the 1990 World Cup - I just loved it. :)

I thought it'd be nice to post some U2 / Pavarotti goodies as a tribute.

MacPhisto phones Pavarotti (Bologna, Italy, 17th July 1993)

Passengers performance of 'Miss Sarajevo' from the Pavarotti & Friends charity concert (Modena, Italy, 12th September 1995):

Bono and Pavarotti perform 'Ave Maria' at the Pavarotti & Friends concert (Modena, Italy, 27th May 2003)

Bono, Pavarotti and Zucchero perform 'Miserere' at the Pavarotti & Friends concert (Modena, Italy, 27th May 2003)

If anyone's interested, I wrote some background information about the charity concerts in my Song Of The Day post about the Modena performance of 'One'.

RIP, Maestro!

EDIT: Bono has now shared some thoughts here...

EDIT #2: The BBC website has an audio clip (7 minutes 46) of Bono talking and laughing about Pavarotti, it's very affectionate and sweet. Needless to say, the word "extraordinary" features a lot. ;)  Go here and the link is in the top right-hand corner.

Anyone else having trouble with the MacP phones Pav? I was able to d'l it, but there's no sound coming off of the MP3...

When I heard about him being so gravely ill last nite, I was hoping he'd overcome it & be with us a little while longer... :(

I've never had any problems with that MP3, so not sure why it isn't playing for you. If anyone else has downloaded it, let me know if it worked or not. Maybe there's something wrong with the upload. I can try emailing you another copy if you want, or I have some alternate (but shorter) MP3s of the same phone call. It's one of my favourites...

And yeah, I had the same thoughts last night. :(

thanks for those... when I heard the news this morning, I thought of Miss Sarajevo before I even thought of any other opera song - glad I can listen to them again *g*

When I listened to Miss Sarajevo before, I didn't read that it was Pavarotti singing, but I recognised his voice! RIP maestro

His music, his voice, has touched my heart all my life.

I wished I could have seen him sing live, but sadly enough I never had the chance.

He was one of The Big Three Tenors, and when I heard the news on the radio this morning, I indeed shed some tears. Such a loss.

He will forever stay with us. With his music, and in our hearts.

Rest in peace, Maestro. And thanks for everything.

Another I was brought up listening to. And the saddest part of all? Some people in some houses have no idea how brilliant he was, or even who he was.

I only just found out a couple of hours ago. I'd been gone since last night, and when I finally got home, mom told me the news. I was just shocked, despite knowing that this would be coming any time now, really. And I was more upset than I thought I would be.

But thank you for this post, Annie.

Thankks for sharing these links. I felt compelled to listen to Miss Sarajevo as well as Nessun Dorma it has to be said, today, and honoured his memory while listening to him.

RIP Maestro.
