Acrobat aggrivation @ 05:49 pm

hbpen:
I'm currently feelin: annoyed annoyed

I'm reading the "U2 by U2" book. I'm on page 228, and Edge says about Acrobat, "It never became a a live favourite, maybe because I don't think that is what people come to U2 for."

Um, when have the played it live??? Maybe it never became a live fave because they didn't give it a chance to become one!

Forgive the rant, but it's my fave U2 song...

There's at least one recording from a soundcheck of them rehearsing it. My guess is one of two things:

Either a) they weren't happy with how it was sounding live, or b) they figured 10 new songs in a 20-song setlist was enough. I mean, that ZooTV setlist was pretty static, and the only song they really could've pulled without disrupting that show was "Ultraviolet" in the encore, which was probably seen as a livelier choice for that part of the setlist. I love "Acrobat" but I can see where they'd have had a problem figuring out where to put it on the setlist. Too bad they never resurrected it for a subsequent tour though.

LOL. That's like my fantasy of Adam doing the bassline from "Lady With The Spinning Head". I tell myself that if I ever meet him, I'll beg and plead for it, but I know I'll end up just gaping, open-mouthed, at the God that is our Lord Clayton. *snicker*

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I was so crap when I met him.

If I ever meet him, I will be totally, utterly, incoherent. (Never mind that I have met other celebs and been a perfectly normal human being.)

I was crap, even for me. Mullet-eyed, white-noise-in-the-head crap. Which is weird, because I don't intimidate easily, in fact it's usually the other way around.

OMG I would FREAK if Adam busted into LWTSH. I'm in the market for a bass and that is the first thing I'm teaching myself to play.

It's a matter of opinion of course, but to me, Acrobat would have to get in line for rarely-played AB tracks I'd want to hear live.

Whenever I've heard Ultraviolet from ZOO TV bootlegs, it consistently blew the doors off the place. I'm stunned it hasn't made it into setlists since then. But I guess they decided to focus on UTEOTW, which is also seriously kickass.

I love your icon. I love Acrobat but I've never heard them play it live. When I was reading the book I was thinking " Gosh I wish they WOULD play that song, it's awesome"
Sigh

Nice, I now JUST got the book, so it'll be interesting to get to that point in the book.

Acrobat, is a fantastic song, so, yeah, I agree, that it should be played live! :)
