So... what's the etiquette rule as far as singing along to a 3D concert movie goes? Is it like a movie or like a concert?

I think that unless you are in an audience with everyone else singing, I would keep quiet. It makes me nuts when people talk in the movies and if I am going to a movie to hear Bono and the boys, then that is what I want. It is going to really depend on the crowd though. When I saw Rattle and Hum, everyone in the theater was singing and cheering, so I don't know if that helps or confuses you...

If anyone does it near me, I'll be seriously annoyed.

I hope people will sing! You know they won't at a non-full showing.... The only times people will be really excited (& cheer and possibly sing) in the theater will be the first night (i.e. tomorrow @ midnight or Wednesday night showings) and maybe at Friday and Saturday night showings. For those of you wanting silence, go to a matinee or on Thursday night, or wait until after this weekend. You'll get your peace and quiet then.

I only will if other people are, of course.

Also, if the theater really cranks it up, you won't even be able to tell whether people are singing along--esp. if the crowd noise from the in-the-crowd shots is included.

I've already watched a U2 concert in a movie theater, in Europe : it was on November 22nd in 2001, to celebrate the worldwide release of the U2 DVD "Elevation Tour Live from Boston".
Although, the atmosphere is completely different from what you can experience during a real live U2 show, it was a good experience - people (mostly fans, yes, there were just U2 fans there) were singing, dancing, screaming, clapping, lip-synching...it was fun..

I don't know if it's going to be the same this time.
Because, everybody can buy and watch as many times as they want the DVD "Elevation Tour Live from Boston" but with this 3-D movie...hmm..better go see it twice.

I think I disagree with some of the responses, but to each his/her own of course.

This isn't like going to a movie where you need to hear the dialogue. It is a concert, and intended to be experienced as such. The point of making 3D movies is to make them more interactive and to illicit more of a response from the audience. Okay that was redundant.

I don't even watch DVDs or bootlegs sitting on my ass. I clap, I sing along, I dance. That's what the music does to me.

I do agree though, that I can't stand when people talk during movies. But that is different. The one-in-awhile funny remark is fine with me, but carrying on a conversation completely unrelated to the movie while it is playing is annoying. I personally don't say anything after the previews are over, because I don't wanna intrude on the movie experience.

Luckily, according to that map livejournal post, none of you live in my area. So you won't have to deal with me at a showing ;-) But, to be fair, if one of those little "Silence is Golden" commercials air right before the movie starts, then I'll stfu.

If people start randomly singing, I will join in. But I would never be the first one to do so because no one is there to hear me, no matter how awesome I might think I am. ;-)

Concerts are another story altogether. I sing my fool head off.

As far as movies go:
Shut up and let Bono do the singing.
Singing to the parking lot is perfectly OK>
