Reactions after seeing U23D @ 05:37 pm

almadri:
I went to the 9.30pm showing last night. I thought the movie was unbelievably realistic. It really felt like I was at the arena, watching a concert. The only thing that was awful was the audio in my theater (King of Prussia's United Artist IMAX). After reading a few reviews that said they were blown away by the movie, particularly the sound, I had very high hopes that it would resemble a concert setting (ie. blaring sound system). I was very disappointed with the sound quality last night.

The movie itself made me relive my experiences from the 2005 Vertigo tour. I went to see them at several venues during the 3rd leg. In Boston, I scored a 5th row seat on The Edge's side. And boy, it felt like The Edge was within an arm's reach whenever he ventured out into the ramp (see attached photo). Last night was like that. And the most awesome thing was that I felt like I got SO close to Larry, which is damn near impossible to achieve in a real concert setting. The closest I ever got to him was during Elevation tour in Philly when I sat behind the stage. From that angle, you could forget about actually seeing his face... But the U23D movie made it possible for us to be so close to Larry and watch him in action on the drums.

I really want to hear feedback from other people about the theaters they went to, because I feel like I got cheated last night... Any suggestion on which theater will give us the best U2 3D experience?

I was at the same showing you were - KoP 9:30. I thought the volume was definitely too low in general (especially compared to the Harrisburg IMAX, where I got to see an advance screening on Monday), but that the quality of the sound mix itself was fine.

There are a number of parts during U2:3D where the crowd noise is mixed down, and I think it makes the "I'm at the concert" feeling go away, which is a little disappointing, I'll agree.

Headed out to see it there again in a few hours - hopefully the volume is turned up a bit more tonight!

We had a good crowd last night. Yeah, the volume was way too low.
LOL, I can't believe you're going to see it again tonight. Actually, I probably would go again if they guaranteed they would turn up the volume!

Well, I went to see U2 in Seattle for Vertigo (the night Bill Gates was in the audience). Sooo... your theater is still an option! ;)

Usually I make these into excuses to take a mini vacation anyway... hahaha...

The only complaint my husband and I had was the sound...it was waaaaay too low. He saw the Transformers movie in the same theatre and came out feeling like he'd had his ear drums pierced. Then for this I kept thinking I'd have it louder at home even taking into consideration the squirrely neighbors. It was strange.

My husband said the exact same thing. The sound was too low. I didn't notice because I was so WOWed by the visual. But thinking back, it was too low.

Here in MN the sound was just a liiiitle below actual "you're THERE" levels. It rocked. The screen's something like 87'x65', so it's nice and big, though I *think* the IMAX at The Bridge in Los Angeles was bigger (a LOT bigger even). Dunno about the sound there since I'm stuck here, but if you're gonna bother to make a trip, maybe consider it? ;)

I was at the Channelside IMAX in Tampa, FL. Our sound (and overall experience) was awesome. Well worth the $12 tickets.

And the film itself? Wow. It's so realistic...I loved the feeling that I could just reach out and touch my beloved Adam. I gushed plenty about it over in my personal LJ.

Hubby and I are going to try and get up there again this weekend(we live in Sarasota; Tampa is an hour's drive north).

Yeah, I had to drive about 40 minutes to get to the nearest IMAX theater showing U23D too. And everything was worth it except for the low volume... Tampa, huh? Not a bad place to visit...

I saw it last night in Houston and the theatre had good sound. But I think they could have turned it up a little louder.

The movie was freaking awesome! I touched Bono. He was talking to me and his hand was stretched out toward me so I reached up and touched it. *sigh*

Also, ditto about Larry. You never really get to see him and his face. the movie made all that possible in WOW kind of way. :)

I was at KoP last night as well and thought the sound was far too low. Wish I'd gotten there earlier for a better seat, too, I was down by the railing and that blocked some of the view.

I'm in Colorado, and will be seeing it tomorrow night. Hopefully we don't have the volume issues that a lot of you guys went through. Very excited tho! :)

Reading everyone's comments on this is making me soooo jealous! In fact, my mom and dad, as I type, are on their way to the IMAX to see it.

Me? I'm stuck at school. Way out the heck in nowhere-land. And I have no car with me, meaning I can't get home (Seattle) in the next few days to see it.

Yeaaaaah, I'm just slightly depressed about this...!!

Awww, don't be too depressed. You sure you can't sweet-talk your dad into driving you home next weekend or something?

Just saw it almost 5 hours ago at the Regal Cinema IMAX at Red Rock Casino in Vegas. The sound was too soft. Plus, some of the people were talking behind me and others were walking out of the aisles for whatever reasons. Other than that, U2 3D was definitely worth every cent. I'm hoping to go again to the Brenden Theatre's IMAX at the Palms Casino. They have THX sound, so maybe it's much better over there.

It's awful about the talking and people getting out of their seats. Some people can be so rude...

The first Vegas theater they mentioned for U23D was actually the Luxor. Don't know how that compares against Palms'...

i saw the pre-screening monday night. the sound was good, adequate level. the film was spectacular. i especially loved finally getting to watch larry! i cant believe how hard that man works to keep it all together... and my own thoughts are, it does indeed take amazing concentration for him to keep track of the intricacy of the beats... and if i'm at a concert and some fan holds up a 'smile larry' sign, i'll bop them one lol.

the only complaint i have is that we were told no talking, so being such docile people, that meant no singing or clapping or whathaveyou. would have liked to be in a room of u2 fans to see this movie and treat it more like a concert and less like a movie.

HAHAHAHAHA... I'd better leave that sign home for the next concert then... I don't wanna get bopped by anyone! I think during Elevation I actually gave Larry a birthday card that said 'Smile for just a moment' or something idiotic like that.

It's amazing how much had work they put into the concert night after night....

Well, since the sound was so low in my theater, nobody was really singing. I was humming, of course, but I didn't dare to go any louder because then I would've beaten the movie sounds...

I went to see the 1:00 showing Wed at Universal City and we had some production crew there who did a sound check before the movie..they told us it may be loud so get ready..and it was loud! it was awesome sound..no one could hear me singing along with U2. When they did the sound check they were talking to production crew in Boston and we were 2 dec. louder...
