Hello Hello!!

I'm sorry...what? @ 05:41 pm

I'm currently feelin: curious perplexed

From here:

Rockers U2 are scrapping all the tracks they have written for their next album to start all over again - ditching a year's worth of work.

The band has been working on the follow up to 2004 LP How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb for the past 12 months, but they're far from happy with the results.

Guitarist The Edge reveals bandmembers have mostly messed around in the studio - and they have now decided to get stuck in and finish the record.
He tells CMUMusic.com, "We went into this project allowing ourselves the indulgence of making music without thinking about where it was going to end up. We're starting to get serious now".

That's not how I'd interpreted the recent quotes about the new album. Has anyone seen anything to back this up, or have they just grabbed the wrong end of the stick?

Tell me about it. Instinctively, I think this is just someone misinterpreting Edge's words, but on the other hand, it's not like there's no precedent for them throwing it all out to start over.

In the U2 by U2 book, that sounds like what often happens with them. They're fiddling/playing around, then when a deadline is approaching, they start hunkering down. (In my interp anyway...)

To me, though, that's a different deal to 'scrapping a years work'. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Oh, yeah, I agree. I guess I was *trying* (unsuccessfully) to say that I think the reporter interpreted the quote wrong.

Ah, yes. Then we agree. I only hope we're right.

If the conclusion of a re-start is drawn from that comment of Edge's, I'd say they either completely misunderstood what he said or deliberately misunderstood in order to generate a shocking headline.

I have my doubts that they'd completely drop all the work they've done and start over; that just doesn't sound like their style. (Which is all beside the fact - kind of - that the bits and pieces I've heard have been amazing. I say "kind of" because I selfishly want to hear those bits and pieces in their final form.)

I think the latter is the case. LAME.

What? I certainly hoped I was reading that wrong, apparently, I wasn't. I wanna say it was interpreted wrong, but we really don't know right now.

The story keeps changing and now I've got no idea what is going on. I don't think it sounds like that can be even anything close to remotely serious. At least not from what I've gathered on the other little updates about this new album. But who knows, it could be. [Call me selfish but] I really hope not, but if so, it is what it is and we'll just have to wait.

LOL, that's even more extreme than yesterday's report about the album not being ready until next year! Just goes to show there are a dozen different ways of interpreting one little quote, I guess. I don't think this particular interpretation makes a whole lot of sense though.

No, not to me either. But I've seen a few more references to it since the google alert for this piece first dropped. I suppose it's all good publicity - keeping people talking about the new album -- but it sure is makes the waiting to find out for sure a bit harder.

Yessss!! Now we can finally get ATYCLB III, without all that annoying middle eastern dance rock stuff they were talking about. Just like we never got "punk rock on venus" with HTDAAB. But I'm sure "Edge's on fire" and we're "really gonna hear Larry on this record".

Annnnnnd end scene.

Yeah, it's all a bit deja-vu-ish, isn't it?

daniel lanois and brian eno are in the studio at HQ every day last week, and the week before. the boys are working every day all day. even if they 'ditch all they've done and start over' its work mode right now. Some of the u2 crew have dropped hints about how the new stuff sounds, so i wouldnt put much faith in a newspaper who most likely took a quote of Edge's (made almost a month ago if i remember correctly) and possibly didnt even interview him themselves. I have no faith in what the media reports.
