canadanne:
Discothèque is totally leaving everything else in the dust! What other video are you gonna pick from the late '90s, then?

ROUND 9: POP (PART 2) / BEST OF 1980-1990

The videos are:

Please [YouTube link]
Get up off your knees, before you give yourself an injury! Wait a minute, more people snogging? What is this, the Beautiful Day video?

If God Will Send His Angels [YouTube link]
Speaking of angels, Bono seems to be invisible again... and not lip-synching all that well. ;p

Mofo (Phunk Phorce Mix) [YouTube link]
PopMart montage, featuring Lara Croft and pregnant bellydancing Morleigh!

Sweetest Thing [YouTube link]
Presents for Ali!  It'd probably be quicker to list what ISN'T in this video. :)

Vote for your favourite VIDEO, not your favourite song!

I make that two Bono facepalms within the space of this round!

Sweetest Thing is without a doubt one of the very best U2 videos - perfect from beginning to end, it's total genius. You can't fail to smile at something along the way! Obviously the Massive Heeeeeds steal the show, but I love the entire jumbled mix of "things Ali would like", from Riverdance to elephants to gyrating firemen, LOL. Bono's whole performance is brilliant, with all his comic facial expressions and miming different things - he really can act when he puts his mind to it! The bit at the end with his slightly wobbly halo is also inspired. *g* And it's so impressive how they managed to film it *almost* as one long continuous sequence, with only one edit required - great job!

Yeah, it has to be Sweetest Thing. One of the best U2 videos of all time. It totally forgives the fact that they turned my favorite B-side into something not as cool. :o)

For me it's If God Will Sent His Angels. The first time I saw that video I rewatched it like 10 times. I love it to bits! So unique, and A+ to Bono for nailing the slo-mo lip-syncing.

Ack! You had to put "Please" up against "Sweetest Thing". That was tough because I really like the video for "Please" but I love "Sweetest Thing", it's completely adorable.

Gosh, all of these voting rounds are hard. This one is between Mofo and The Sweetest Thing. Mofo because of being representative to the Popmart tour, which dominated U2 image in this era, and The Sweetest Thing because I 'grew up' with that vid.
I still voted for The Sweetest Thing video, because I think the boys are more themself in it, then the Mofo video.

Lara appears on the PopMart screen shooting, whenever that kind of machine gun rattle comes in just before the verses (e.g. at 0:48). Morleigh appears several times between about 1:42 and 2:17.

If I had known Sweetest had the big lead, I would have thrown a bone to Mofo. I don't ususally like the concert videos, but Mofo contains all the fun, glitzy rock -in my opinion- from the height of their concert performances (between the ZooTV and PopMart tours).
