Battle Of The Videos: Round 10 @ 06:16 pm

Sweetest Thing is winning the last vote by a mile. How could it not?!

The videos are:

The Ground Beneath Her Feet [YouTube link]
Originally featured on the Million Dollar Hotel soundtrack. U2 *AND* Salman Rushdie? That's almost too much awesomeness in one video.

Beautiful Day [YouTube link]
Bono and his clone create mischief at Paris airport. Random thrusting indicates secret nostalgia for Discothèque.

Beautiful Day (Èze version) [YouTube link]
Larry looks waaaayyyy too happy! Maybe someone spotted a mermaid through that telescope.

Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of [YouTube link]
Just the bang and the clatter as a Bono hits the ground...

Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of (US Version) [YouTube link]
What says "grief over friend's apparent suicide" better than American football and sledgehammer-subtle U2 jokes?

Vote for your favourite VIDEO, not your favourite song!

Beautiful Day had a great video - it takes a fairly average song and makes it seem 10 times better, somehow. Lots of little funny moments to keep you entertained: Bono in the revolving door, Bono stealing luggage, Bono on the escalator, Bono stealing fruit, Bono on the baggage carousel, Bono's little skip of joy at the end... hee! And the sequence on the runway is very well done, I remember how everyone was all "WOW, is that real?!" the first time it aired. The only bit I don't like is the gross kissing. :p  My favourite part is where Bono sits down next to his bandmates even though another Bono is already there - it's just so random and cool!

I would also give a mention to Stuck In A Moment, though - I've just rewatched it for the first time in ages, and I must say it's a really nice video. Simple but effective, and I love the camerawork... it seems to have echoes of several older U2 videos, too. I will never understand what possessed them to create the US version, though; it's SO AWFUL on so many levels. :/  What made them think Americans wouldn't appreciate the original video, anyway?

I agree with basically everything you said. I actually had a hard time choosing between Beautiful Day and Stuck. Initially I thought I was gonna vote for Stuck, then I thought about it, and I really like the Beautiful Day video better even though I find the song annoying (but this competition isn't about the songs anyway.)

The song and video must've made all the U2 fans that didn't 'get' Pop breathe a big sigh of relief. The band were back to their senses! (meaning they panicked and decided to please the masses ;P) The video is really cute though, Bono is being ultra-goofy, and I had a good time making mini-movie icons from it (though I don't have any added to my userpics at the moment):

And then of course there's the performance sequences where they all look ultra cool, and Bono's doing his Elvis thing. And the final sequence on the runway. It's all very well put together. Also, bonus points for having the suitcase logo show up in the carry-on x-ray!

But the Stuck video is also one of my favourites, and not just because it's fun for some reason to see Bono fall down a lot. I love the repetitiveness of it. Bono is indeed stuck in that moment. Although I must say, the sequence of Adam, Edge, and Larry trying to cross the busy street to get to him always makes me think of Frogger XD Also, the video has a bit of mindfuckery to it, and I'm not referring to the ultra-cool sequence of the camera turning upside down when Bono falls out of the van... if you notice toward the end of the video, when Edge is looking down on Bono and singing, behind Edge you can see the van that kidnapped Bono, and indeed see Bono getting into it and it taking off while Larry and Adam attempt to chase it down. Interesting... perhaps it was an inside job ;P Edge doesn't seem all that concerned, if you get what I'm saying.

Ooh, I've never noticed that before!

You said everything I wanted to say. I'm 100% in agreement, incl' Stuck... and esp. the gross kissing in BD!

Beautiful Day for the win. I had seen this video when it first came out and fell in love with it. I love the randomness of the second Bono and in fact - I never even noticed there were two of him until I'd seen it a few times and realized. Then I just laughed at it every time after that. :D
And I agree with canadanne about the gross kissing. XD That's just the part I never really pay attention to, the rest of the video is great. I really love the part where all the stuff is going through security and you see the heart suitcase. Shush, yes I'm lame. :P But in all seriousness, quite sentimental.

Ground beneath your feet is the most beautiful U2 song along with Stateless and Never Let me Go from that soundtrack. *sigh*

Stuck in a Moment, US Version because it captures best what the song is about.

The American football SIAMYGCOO is actually a metaphor for the life of Bob Hewson. Sure, the song was originally was about the Michael Hutchins, but the football video is more than just about football and U2 jokes.
