Is something going on? @ 01:00 pm

angelkitten13:
The other night, while I was on my way home from work the strangest thing happened.

I tend to station surf while I'm driving, so I caught the tail end of "Where The Streets Have No Name." I changed the station and heard "I Will Follow" and then changed the station again and found the last 3/4 of "Beautiful Day."

And, a couple of days before that I heard Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses on the radio. That's the first time I've ever heard that one on the radio.

Have they announced that when the new album is coming out and I missed it? Or is it building hype? Or...is it all a weird coincidence?

Has anyone else noticed anything like this in your area?

Rumor has it the new album is out in October with a tour to follow in March.
I don't listen to the radio much here, so I haven't noticed.

I think it might be a coincidence. I had Sunday Bloody Sunday come on twice before the stuff was all announced. (:
Seriously. It was on one station, and when it ended, IT WAS ON ANOTHER. Crazy shit.

No coincidence. U2 is on a MAJOR record label and part of the record business process is that in the months leading up to a new release, you start urging radio stations to play their songs more, and making sure that shelves are full at record stores so that the band is on people's mind and they don't have to remember that they like the artist alot. This more or less is targeted for casual fans rather than us U2-heads who are MAJOR fans!

our radio stations wont play u2 at all. ever. and still wont. one is classic rock and wont, the other is new rock (nin, white stripes, weezer etc) and heavy alternative, and wont play u2. (but they'll play the new coldplay violet hill. go figure)

I work for a station that sounds pretty much like the one that doesn't play U2 that you're talking about. The only good thing is that I work there, so I always throw in U2 when I have time lol

If only there were more DJs like me around!

The other day, I caught Vertigo and Pride within the same hour. Usually, I was lucky to even hear them once every couple days.
It's pretty much what camiloj said. It's been 4 years since a U2 album was released, so a lot of the fans who don't keep tabs of bands too closely probably have no idea that another one is coming this year most likely. The more people hear the, the more they are going to remember, wonder and maybe even look up stuff then prepare to spend their money on the album and such! Not to mention those re-masters are coming out this month too. 2008 is a busy year for sure!

i've even caught when they were talking about u2 on the radio. they told about band members, a bit of u2 history, about their first single and about the most popular songs. and they did say that u2 are going to come with a new album this or next year. that probably was just a good radio-station :D i don't listen to a particular one, i change them all the time accoring the music playing.

Maybe? I've always found it really easy to find a U2 song on the radio at any given time. Are you in the NYC area btw? I heard "Whose Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" on RXP the other day, they play a lot of U2.

On the other hand, I'm forced to listen to a terrible lite FM station at work all day (the only U2 songs on their playlist are WOWY and SHFWILF) and yesterday they introduced WOWY by mentioning that there would be new U2 music coming out soon. Nothing specific, but if this big Clear Channel lite FM station is mentioning it I'm guessing it's because they were told to plug it. (Or maybe the DJ was is a fan.)

Today I heard "Beautiful Day" on the radio. It was actually the first time I've heard U2 on the radio in quite some time.

I heard "Beautiful Day" yesterday afternoon. No other influx of U2 songs on the radio, though. I do think that when a U2 song gets played on one station, a lot of listeners must call up another station and request one, because I've noticed that more than once--switching from one station that just played a U2 song only to find one on the next station I switch to. Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)

I have become a U2 fan not so long time ago that's why I can't tell what it was before. But now I hear their songs wherever I go. I told it to my friend and she answered the point is I never paid any attention to it before. Thats it! Don't worry your angels know what you want and give it to you :)
