Hello Hello!!

January 13th, 2009

*U2* confirmed to play at inauguration @ 06:19 pm

karasumaa:
I'm currently hearin: Zucchero ft Andrea Bocelli - Miserere

So you know how before Bono was slated to perform at the Inaugural Celebration?

13.01.2009
'We Are One'
U2 join a stellar line up of artists at The Lincoln Memorial in Washington this Sunday for 'We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration'. Don't miss it. It's open to the public and aired on HBO.

Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, John Legend, Usher, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, will.i.am, and Stevie Wonder are among the acts performing while Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington are among those reading historical passages.

'We Are One:The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial' is the opening celebration for the 56th Presidential Inaugural, presented by HBO this Sunday, January 18 (7:00-9:00 p.m. ET/PT).

More news as we get it.

Of course they'll play One (maybe even with Mary J Blige?)... but I wonder if they'll debut the single, since it's supposed to get radio airplay on the 19th anyway.

Lawd, I wonder if it'll be streaming anywhere.

I guess it depends on how many songs they get to do... If all those people are performing in two hours (plus speeches and such), I doubt they're doing more than a song or two, right?

Probably... If anyone's doing less songs than others, I bet it won't be U2 anyway.

I've gotten to think, given the name of the event, that they might get everyone to sing it together. Holy trainwreck, Mr. MacPhisto!

I think I missed that.
I take it was disastrous?

It was all over the place AND boring. It's like everyone was told "hey, you guys know the lyrics to Across the Universe, right?" like 20 minutes before the show, and know the lyrics they did. But seriously, it was... sad.

I should consider myself lucky I missed it, then.
I hope that this inauguration celebration isn't as disastrous as that was.

it starts at 2 pm - and the show is slated to run till 3:30 - dc police are only expecting a half million folks. i will be one of them.

HBO is airing it on an open frequency, so everyone should be able to watch it...

I believe they're committed to doing the first live performance of the single at the BRIT Awards on February 18th. Details here. But who knows, that could change.

The night before Martin Luther King Day? And two nights before the inauguration of the first African-American U.S. president? I'd be very surprised if U2 didn't play "Pride (In the Name of Love)."
