Red Hot Chili U2's @ 10:43 pm

neverletmedown:
I'm currently feelin: calm calm
I'm currently hearin: Jai - I Believe

If you haven't listened to it already, I highly suggest picking up the new Red Hot Chili Pepper's album.

But if you can't do that, whatever you do, try to find by any means necessary the following songs:

  • Venice Queen
  • Dosed

What's my point? It sounds as if the Red Hot Chili Peppers hired The Edge for those songs. It's actually quite amazing. Venice Queen is reminiscent of the Unforgettable Fire/Joshua Tree/Rattle & Hum era of U2. Dosed reminds me of "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" or an outtake from Pop... it's quite astounding.

Here's a clip of each song:

Venice Queen: http://www.content.loudeye.com/scripts/hurlPNM.exe?/~ttt-600005/0618640_0116_00_0002.ra
Dosed: http://www.content.loudeye.com/scripts/hurlPNM.exe?/~ttt-600005/0618640_0104_00_0002.ra

So go! Go and listen to the clips or find those songs and tell me what you think. Surely I'm not delusional. ;) (Well, okay, I may be... haha).

Venice Queen (the last track on the CD) is pure Unforgettable Fire... it's uncanny

I admit, 4 minutes into the song I'm not really seeing it as much as you must be. A couple similarities, sure, but nothing that screams out that era of U2 to me.

I don't get the same sense out of Dosed that you do, either - aside from a couple notes along the way. Just not enough to really draw the comparison for me.

For me it's just the style of guitar playing in Venice Queen that hints at the Unforgettable Fire era - the reverb guitar, echoing... a style the Red Hot Chili Peppers rarely, if ever use. So when I first heard it, that's what I thought.

Dosed only reminded me of U2 because of the sound of the guitar - very reminiscent of the style of guitar heard during the solo of "Ground Beneath Her Feet"...

Obviously the songs are not long lost U2 songs, but there's a style that's definitely Edge that I can hear in those songs. The melodies of course, aren't U2... it's just the style of guitar. That's all. Of course, that's what *I* hear... as we both see, you obviously didn't hear it... so I'm probably just delusional as I said ;)

If I had to pinpoint the sound of "Venice Queen" to one song, I'd compare it to "4th of July"

It's just an example of two different people getting different things out of the same songs. Nothing abnormal about that.
