U2.com subscription @ 03:19 am

eidolon_bird:
I'm currently feelin: quirky

I have seen quite a few posts about presale codes, but nothing about the subscriptions.  I probably should have asked this MONTHS ago, but time flies and all that.

First of all, if I subscribed now, would I still be included in one of the presale ticket groups?  The site mentions pre-sale in its ads, but I would hate to shell out the money and find out that I had to subscribe before the album/tour announcement or some other entirely arbitrary date to be included in the pre-sale.  I assume older members have first crack at tickets and newer members will get the leftovers - any confirmation?

Second, assuming I do get a pre-sale code, will I actually be able to get any tickets?  I remember last tour there was a HUGE mess with most of the pre-sale codes going to scalpers.  Announcements were made that "things were being looked in to" or something of that sort, but I never heard about what, if anything, had been done to fix the situation.

Finally, is it really worth it?  A double-CD of tracks I already own in one form or another, "exclusive" web content that many people have described as lacking, and access to a presale that may not do me any good?  Is that all they have to offer, or am I missing something somewhere?

Am I doing nothing more than increasing the cost of my theoretical concert tickets by $50, or is the subscription really worth it?  Thoughts?  Opinions?  Recipes for a good tiramisu?

The last time I booked I found my pre-sale codes to be very helpful for me, but that was in Australia where there is less competition!

You can review the tour FAQs here:

I think you had to have joined by March 9 but I am not sure where I read that because its not anywhere on the page. You might have to email them and ask. Hope this helps

I was worried due to the reported chaos during last tour's US presales, so it is very nice to know things are running a bit more smoothly this year.

That March 9th thing may take a bit more research though.

I think new members get the lowest tier of presale (Boots?) that gets to buy on the day before the public sale. It's still better than nothing and I haven't heard anything dire from the sales that have already happened (Amsterdam, Gothenburg, Milan, etc).

I know I would be next-to-last to purchase, but even a half-day would be at least a tiny bit better than fighting the early-morning TicketMaster madness.  I only hope the US sales are as relatively calm as the European sales have been.

Do you know if you joined before or after the 9th?  That was the day they were supposed to send out pre-sale info, so I'm wondering if I've missed the boat already.

you also get 25% off a single purchase from the u2 store (which i'm already getting ready to use), and you usually get an ultra exclusive goodie at chrismukkah.

Oh nice!  I remember them offering the discount in the past, but I didn't see it mentioned when I was glancing over the subscription page this year.  (Then again, it is well past my bedtime and my reading comprehension skills aren't exactly at their best.)

It's worth it to me. I frequented the website, but just made a subscription on Monday this week. The 25% off is good for a year (pretty sure)...and I got the presale code (and am in the Boots group)...but I figure I'll still be able to purchase my tickets before the public sale...

I was one of the people in the last debacle. I tried for the first Chicago show and the only tickets available were in the rafters...on the presale. So the second leg hit and they worked everything out. My tickets ended up being third row (after they varified that I was indeed a fan club member - hence the personalized codes). They even waved the ticketmaster fees. So long story short, I have complete faith that it will be smooth this time around :)

I think, hey, its U2. I waste $50 a year on other things, why not on my fave band. People put waaaaayyyy too much thought into this. Just fork over the dough, U2 never truly disappoints. They may make missteps, but they always try to do right by their fans.

I used the pre-sale code on Monday and it went very smoothly and relaxed and without problems. Got my tickets and went crazily happy over it ;-) I'm a long-time subscriber, so I went with the Horizon group, but friends of mine got their tickets in the Boots group and everything went perfectly well for them, too.

And a friend of mine just subscribed yesterday, and the pre-sale code is already there and in the Boots group, so that will be sure enough to get tickets, too :-)

In my opinion, those 50$ are really worth it this time. The pre-sale works 100% perfect this time, that's all I can say :-)

I think that is the last little bit of info I needed to convince me to get a subscription.  Thanks so much! =D

so i was part of the presale mess last year, and wound up getting a refund of my fan club membership after it. i wanted floor seats and they weren't available for the presale i was able to get them out of the regular sale. now maybe this is me being pessimistic but i would worry that for the US sales you're going to have the same issue in the boots group this year whereas the horizon group will probably have a fairly easy go at it since the scalpers wouldn't have thought to join that far in advance. that being said i did get a new fan club membership for the tour. i chose to do it shortly after the album came out so i'm in the middle group, we'll see how it goes. I don't know how the onsale dates are going to go but if they give you your code immediately and you're interested in one of hte latter shows it might be worthwhile to wait and see how smoothly things continue to go.

I've barely got the money to buy tickets, let alone cough up an additional $50 for a pre-sale that may not help me.

I'm taking my chances with the public sale. *crosses fingers*

Oh, and here ;)

Last tour, I had no problem buying two tickets during the general sale (not GA, however), and was able to find another two GA tickets available at face value (one on Craigslist, the other on eBay. I think it helped taht I only wanted one.).

But that was arenas - no idea if the general sale will be even easier to buy tickets (so many seats in a stadium) or harder (fewer shows, more mass hysteria).

It is worth it. Last tour, I had NO problems with the presales. I got all the tickets to the shows I wanted without any problems at all! I hope to have the same experience this time around.

Same here. U2 has taken care of fans since the Prop days with the tix. Yes, last time there was some trouble, but that is the only time in all these years. People have to keep it in perspective.
