With or Without You & Lady with the Spinning Head @ 07:39 pm

deepbluemermaid:
I'm currently hearin: U2 - Magnificent

Hey everyone, I was hoping that you could help me out with a couple of things:

1) could someone please upload for me a live version of With or Without You with the full extra verse ("We'll shine like stars in the summer night / We'll shine like stars in the winter light / One heart, one hope, one love") at the end? I have many live shows, but I don't have a version with this extra verse (the Slane Castle show & the 'Tonight Bob Dylan Is Playing With Us' bootleg have different lyrics). Ideally, I'd love to get the fantastic version from the Rattle and Hum movie, or some other high-quality audio.

2) can anyone please tell me if there are any other versions of Lady with the Spinning Head apart from a) the 3:54 B-side to One and b) the 6:06 'Extended dance mix' from the 1990-2000 Best Of? For example, is it on the Axtung Beibi sessions? And has it ever been played live? It's one of my favourite songs, so I'd love to get more versions if possible. I've tried googling, but if I've missed an obvious site, please tell me!

Thanks in advance for any help :) I have a pretty massive collection of U2 mp3s, so I'd be happy to upload some rare tracks in return.

I have a slightly poor quality from the '89 Point Depot gig that has 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' on top of the Rattle and Hum version.

Wow, thank you so much for these links. I'm so happy to get the R&H version especially, but one with both the extra verse and 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' is definitely a bonus!

Also, love for your Dollhouse icon :)

Unfortunately, Lady With The Spinning Head has never been played live. Most b-sides haven't. If you'd like to know which have, check out the second question of the U2 Setlist FAQ.

As far as I recall, LWTSH isn't on Axtung Beibi (though I haven't listened to much of Axtung in literally years, so I might be wrong). That said, Take You Down has some elements of it - in the end, bits and pieces of Take You Down went to a number of songs, i.e. LWTSH, The Fly, Ultra Violet, and Wake Up Dead Man.

Thank you for this interesting info and for the link. I just spent quite a lot of time looking around u2gigs.com - I like your job title of 'setlistorian'!

Also, hi! I remember you from Interference...I used to hang out there all the time, years ago, much to the detriment of my uni grades! And were you also a member of the New Zealand U2 list on Yahoo Groups, back in the day?

Thanks! :) Heh, I've tossed between 'setlistorian' and 'setlistographer' ... 'setlistorian' probably is a good portmanteau for me, since I'm actually a historian outside of U2 world (an aspiring one anyway).

I still hang around Interference all the time ... much to the detriment of my uni grades! I don't think I was ever on the NZ U2 Yahoo list, but I did post somewhat frequently on the New Zooland forums for a while. Interference is now the only U2 forum I post on. Between that and running U2gigs, I have more than enough to keep me excessively procrastinating. I should be writing a thesis right now, but of course I'm working on a trivia article for U2gigs.

Oh, awesome! I think that's exactly the version I was looking for (the Rattle & Hum one). Thanks so much :)

Sure!

Hey I was just thinking about this- I have Under A Blood Red Sky in vinyl and CD (broken turntable), and my versions on the CD are shorter and lamer than the ones on vinyl. do you have the regular vinyl versions of like 11 O'clock Tick Tock and electric Co and such?

Unfortunately I don't have any U2 albums on vinyl. But I just looked up the track listing for UABRS on Wikipedia, and my version seems slightly different. Here's what I've got, so you can check if your song lengths are different:

1. "Gloria" 4:43
2. "11 O'Clock Tick Tock" 4:44
3. "I Will Follow" 3:48
4. "Party Girl" 3:16 [Wiki says 3:08]
5. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" 5:27 [Wiki says 5:17]
6. "The Electric Co." 4:57 [Wiki says 5:18, but that's the original version with an unlicensed snippet]
7. "New Year's Day" 4:36
8. ""40"" 3:55 [Wiki says 3:43]

This difference could just be because whoever ripped my mp3 copy added extra space between the songs - I really don't know!
