It seems to be a recurring experience on this tour that people have a crap time in the stands and an awesome time in GA - and not because the sound or visuals are bad in every venue, but because of the shit behaviour of other patrons.

I think if you're a big fan, and you can physically manage it, GA is the only way to go. I had a seat for the NJ1 show and while the sound and vision were awesome, I wanted to tell the dicks around me to fucking pay attention and stop obsessing about how much bad American beer they could force down their moronic throats.

It's my current theory that U2 have become a 'bucket-list' band for a lot of people and they're only going to say they've seen them.

I think it's also a problem with stadiums in general. If you're playing to an arena which seats 20,000 people, you can fill it with Capital-F Fans. To fill a stadium, you're banking on the Real Fans, but also to people who will go, as you say, as something to cross off the bucket-list.

That said, I was so impressed by the crowd in Raleigh (from what I could see, which was behind the stage and to the sides of the stage). Even during the new numbers they seemed so willing to get into it- acting out Bono's hand signals, clapping, cheering, dancing.

It sucks that OP got stuck between some unfortunate people. :(

I will say that the guys didn't play to the catwalk as much, which was a little weird, and may have affected how the energy felt.

I think the worst stadium crowd that I saw was Toronto 1, where they'd comped 20 000 tickets to RIM and not only did a lot of them not show up, but the ones who did came late and left early. The GA was awesome, but it sucked seeing so many empty seats.

That's what I was reading with the show in Dallas. People in the stands getting drunk and not really paying attention to the show.

*Sigh* I wish they'd play arenas again :(

As long as they play stadiums when they come to Australia, I don't care. We have largely crap arenas (because indoor sports pretty much don't exist) so it's stadiums or nothing down here.

Oh, I hope they play stadiums in Oz for you :D *crosses fingers*

I'm going to see the band in Vancouver for the very first time from the Red Zone and I hope the show is brilliant.

I'm sure it will be. Is this going to be your first time seeing them live? How very cool.

As for us, if they come it'll be stadiums. If they don't come, it'll be weeping and angst :D

YES! If you don't count the time I sneaked away from my mother and stood outside the stadium for Popmart before being chased off by a security guard :D

I cannot wait.

I would have to disagree, I was in the stands at Giants Stadium and had an amazing time. There were no problems with any of the people near me, all were there on time and only a few left early. Apart from that everyone was singing, dancing and enjoying the show.

Maybe i was just lucky that the people around where i was sitting were all great fans too, but i dont think its fair to say that everyone in the stands had a crappy time at the concert. Its not whether someone that stands in GA or the stands that makes them a 'big' fan, and Im sure most people still planning or hoping to attend a show will find out the same in their own experiences. :)

I'm glad you had a great time and I know some other people who've had seats have too. But I've been seeing the same comments about crap people in the stands on every U2 forum I belong to since the NA leg started. I'm certainly not basing my opinion solely on how it was for me. I think the general experience has been on this leg of the tour that a higher proportion of 'casual' fans are buying seats and some of them are ruining it for the rest of us.
