How does he do it?

Time and time again, I'm struck by the ... artistry ... of Bono's lyrics. He writes using magic as his ink.

Still shaking, still in pain
You put me back together again
I was cold and you clothed me, honey
I was down and you lifted me, honey
Do you feel in me
Anything redeeming,
Any worthwhile feeling
Is love like a tightrope
Hanging from my ceiling
Through the storm we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
I remember when we could sleep on stones
But now we lie together in whispers and moans
They're reading names out over the radio
All the folks the rest of us won't get to know
Sean and Julia - Gareth, Ann and Breda
Their lives are bigger than any big idea
And a woman needs a man
Like a fish needs a bicycle
When I was all messed up
And I heard opera in my head
Your love was a lightbulb
Hangin' over my bed
I was broken, bent out of shape
I was naked in the clothes you made

I think I can rest my case.
Ah, one could drown in this sort of music.
