So..why was a live version of Bad used in an ad for the Daytona 500? Ugh. I threw up a little in my mouth.

Since I'm like, senile and all, was this during the Saints game or something (considering you saw it)?

I honestly don't remember. We were so disgusted, though. LOL

When I first heard it, I squealed. And then realized what I was seeing. And yeah. NOT GOOD.

So is it U2 or Bad being in any commercial or just NASCAR you have a problem with? Because I know their songs have been in several commercials. The iPod and Blackberry come immediately to mind.

I can only speak for myself, as I had the same reaction as the poster, but - it's the NASCAR thing. Ew.

Well, that's just silly. I suppose that you think everyone involved in NASCAR is an ignorant redneck who could not possibly understand the awesomeness of U2. You should get out more and see that NASCAR fans come in all varieties as do U2 fans. And apparently U2 have no problem with NASCAR because in 2008 there was a U23D car promoting the movie.

I do admit that Bad is an odd choice of a song to promote a race, but I just googled the promo and found that it's mainly instrumental and I think works pretty well with the commercial.

Hey, that's just my personal reaction to NASCAR, and was in no way a judgement on NASCAR fans.

Saaaame here. I laughed when I saw this post just now, 'cause yeah, it was my reaction seeing it too.

Which bit did they use?? I can't think how that song could be even vaguely linked with motorsport! U2 songs and sports coverage have always gone hand-in-hand, but what a weird choice that is (even if they had no idea what it's about).

Way to forever taint one of the best songs they've ever released.

I don't get it. I don't know if it's because this song means something and has its own history and it's been in my life for a long time so it's automatic for me to reject seeing it commercialized like this, or if it's the specific pairing with NASCAR. Either way, I just don't get it. WTF?

I know! When it came on, I just went "LALALALA" so I wouldn't hear it.
Other commercials with U2 songs seem a bit more upscale, like Blackberry. And using Beautiful Day during a baseball game is one thing.
But seriously. NASCAR? And I live in the south with lots of NASCAR fans. Drinking beer and watching smelly cars go around in a circle is not classy.

Eh, I don't like it, either. Wouldn't they have to ask U2 for permission to use the song?
