Live vs studio favourites @ 11:44 pm

canadanne:
Here's an interesting question, or set of questions...

What's your favourite U2 song? What's your favourite U2 song to hear live? Are they the same song?

I'm just curious. Is it automatically a highlight of the concert when you hear them play your favourite studio track? Or do you like a particular song that just doesn't work as well live (or indeed has never been played live)?

They change depending on mood, of course, but IN GENERAL, my fave studio track is Acrobat and my fave live track is Bullet the Blue Sky.

My favourite is probably Miracle Drug. My favourite live track is Ultraviolet :)

Love is Blindness is my favorite live! It sounds pretty great! Zoostation and The Fly are great too!

My favorite song is Stay, and it sounds cool live, but I think the album version is much much better. It's a cute song when played acousticly (is that word?), but on the album it's made of awesome!

Favorite song ever is Mysterious Ways.

Favorite live song would be a tie - Mysterious Ways because it's my favorite song, and seeing/hearing it live just makes it even more special. Finally got to see it in person this tour, in Tampa. It was well worth the wait!

And the other favorite live song is Streets. It's just such an experience to see it done live, and is truly the best part of the show. The band and the audience go to another place, and all is right with the world. The intro still gets me every time, and of course, the fact that the very first U2 song I remember hearing was Streets only adds to it for me.

It changes but I love Mysterious Ways live and on the album. The Sydney version from Zoo TV is just catnap to me. The slide guitar bit as you think the song is about to end is so awesome.

I've only seen U2 once and when I did, a lot of songs I didn't really connect with on their albums really hit me live (City of Blinding Lights, Breathe, Magnificent and Unforgettable Fire).

Live: Streets blows me away every time. Otherwise: Drowning Man, which has never been played live (except in rehearsals), IIRC.

For me... well, my favourite song alternates between Lemon and One. Lemon was of course fantastic live - that's the version I originally fell in love with - but I've never seen it live in person and nor am I likely to! As for One, there are exceptions but it's never seemed quite as powerful in concert as it does on the album, and it hasn't been a particular highlight of any of the shows I've attended.

My favourite live song appears to be New Year's Day, I go crazy every time they play that one - it's guaranteed to make my night. The studio version would probably be somewhere in my top five.

My all time fave is One, which is also one of my favourites live, especially when they actually include the last verse. But I think my fave when I was actually at the concert was I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, just because it was probably the song the crowd got the most into, and being one of 62,000 people singing that song with Bono... it was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had in my life. Goosebumps now just thinking about it, haha.

Yeah, One live with the last verse is amazing. I love that verse. Also, ISHFWI was really strong. It was amazing to sing with everyone and gives me goosebumps as well.

My favourite in the studio these days is A Sort Of Homecoming, but nothing beats One Tree Hill live.

My favorite studio and live song are the same: Where the Streets Have No Name.

I think my second-favorite live song is Bad, but the studio version is nowhere near the top of my list.

My favorite song of all time is Beautiful Day. Its just an unbelievable piece. However to pick a less favorite studio song, I'd have to say its Crumbs From Your Table. Its just such a good song and so many people don't know it. As for live song, when I went and saw them last year Bono and The Edge did an acoustic version of Stuck in a Moment that brought me to tears.
