I'll be the lone voice making a vote for "soundboard!" It's fun to hang with friends and meet new people in the line, but I really like hanging in the back.

There's usually more room to dance around, or to shift a foot to the left if someone taller comes and stands in front of you. I'm 5'2" and cannot see if I'm close and am more than 2 heads from the stage or rail. If there's more room, it's easier to get a better view.

Plus, you can sneak out to pee or get a drink or whatever, and not worry about losing your spot.

Bonus - chance of celebrity sightings by the soundboard area. in Vegas, Paul McGuiness was wandering around in the back, and chatted a bit with one of my friends.

Also great - you get the entire show from there. The stage/claw is amazing when you can see the whole thing.

So, if it's not necessary for you to be sweat upon by Bono, I vote for the back. Don't get me wrong - I was in the Ellipse once on the Vertigo tour, and it was the best thing since sliced bread, but I've really been enjoying the 360 tour from the back.

Finally, if you're visiting a new town for the concert, you can spend the day doing some fun touristy stuff, rather than spend it sitting in line (but yes, I know a lot of people think that's part of the fun).

My two cents. :-)

Very good argument. I'd think about doing this, especially in a place like LA, but...the urge to be close is too strong in me. I'm sure someday I'll end up in back due to time constraints beyond my control, and I'm sure I'll love it all the same.
