Could you tell us why you think it's lame? Because I think it's one of the best songs on the album. Excellent vocal performance and I think the lyrics do a great job at painting a very sad picture.

and of course there's the story about how Red Hill Mining Town was going to be a single, but Bono couldn't sing something that high every night on tour. They even had the video filmed, but it's rarely ever shown. But uh... yeah. You guys probably all know that.

As far as it being a weak link in the album, I personally don't think it is. But there was something in the U2 Faq(I Think) about how Jtree was originally going to be a double album, and Bono felt like some of the songs didn't make sense without others that didn't make the cut. I think most of those are on the Best Of B-Sides, though.

and, since this is my first post in this community, hey everybody.
Later!

I'm in agreement with the other two, the song has such a great history about it, and the video is amazing.

But...I know...my love and passion for different U@ songs comes and goes....so maybe come back to it in a couple years....

I can't believe I haven't seen the video for RHMT yet!!! Is it available anywhere? I want to say it's on some sort of Joshua Tree video (there's one at my store that I keep meaning to borrow) but I'm not sure......

*mouth hangs open*

Whoa, I've never heard anyone call RHMT "lame" before.

I think it's amazing - RTSS leading into RHMT is one of the best parts of the album IMHO!  My favourite part, I think.

I totally disagree. Red Hill Mining Town, lyrically, is a very poignant and sad song.

Well, we all have our opinions. :D

Must agree with canadanne here. Never heard RHMT called lame before.

Also, RHMT is my bass teacher's favorite U2 song, and I think it's really interesting why... (warning: music geek language to follow, tune out if you don't care)

RHMT is incredibly interesting musically. The way it's built, the way the chords change and move around each other, the way the chords relate to each other... it's absolutely fascinating. I'm sitting here staring at my notes from one particular lesson, trying to make sense of them (unfortunately it isn't very linear or legible). All I can remember is him showing me how the base chord turned around on itself and became the fifth in the key change and some other stuff like that. I love RHMT, just because it sounds so simple, yet musically it's amazingly complex
