Russian song @ 11:26 pm

canadanne:
I would like to find out the name of the Russian song that the Zoo Baby sings just before Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car on the 1993 tour. I've seen a few people stating that's it's called 'Le Rocher sur la Volga' or 'The Cliff', from the album Lenin's Favourite Songs, and it is certainly true that the introductory fanfare (which also precedes the track on Zooropa) is from that song - you can hear it on YouTube. However, I'm not entirely convinced that the vocal is from the same song? It's hard to tell because I don't speak Russian, but I've listened a bunch of times and I just don't hear any part where the melody or lyrics seem to match.

Can anyone confirm that 'The Cliff' is indeed being sung on the Sydney video, or suggest what else it could be? It would be very useful if any Russian-speaking fans are able to transcribe the words they hear.

Thank you for accepting the community! I'm Russian, very happy to help! Starting from the song "There is a cliff on the Volga"("Есть на Волге утёс"), here's the link: http://www.moskva.fm/artist/%D0%B0%D0%BB%D0%B5%D0%BA%D1%81%D0%B5%D0%B9_%D0%B1%D0%BE%D0%BB%D1%8C%D1%88%D0%B0%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B2/song_0639789
Words from the song "Dubinushka" ("Дубинушка") is a song Russian boatmen, who before the revolution dragged along the Volga and other rivers barges. Right here is the translation: http://lyrics-translations.com/song/show/1941002/fyodor-ivanovich-shalyapin/lyrics-and-translation-dubinushkaeh-uhnem/
