Hello Hello!!

October 4th, 2002

Hi everyone! @ 12:12 pm

mtheu2nut:
I have been reading this community for quite a while now, without realizing that I never actually joined! Bad U2 fan...

Anyway, My name is Meredythe. You might recognize me if you have been on any of the Yahoo groups, I've been on most of those at one time or another, and now am most active on Rewired.

I've been thinking about creating a CD set for myself of my favorite live performances. Just one performance for each song--sort of like a dream concert idea. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks...

Beatiful Day and Bad as performed at Farmclub.com are outstanding versions. And available as b-sides.
Sunday Bloody Sunday from Sarajevo - PoP Tour [i have that to give you if you need it]
Bullet the Blue Sky and Running to Stand Still from the Sydney ZooTV tour... man that gives me chills.
Bullet the Blue Sky from that Elevation Tour DVD... when he starts talking about stalking John Lennon and going off on handguns in America. Dayum.

Wow I think I have all of those you mentioned with the possible exception of Sunday Bloody Sunday... I had it as Real Audio file a long time ago, and I think it may have been deleted, I'll have to look. I'm kinda shying away from Bullet the Blue Sky from the Elevation shows. It's never been one of my favorite songs to begin with, and I think maybe including Bono's "rap" about Lennon might be too painful for me to listen to over and over. Sort of like the Rattle and Hum version of SBS. I love it, but it's sort of painful to listen to that speech in the middle. But, then, what version of Sunday Bloody Sunday to use? Sarejevo is a good choice, I will have to see if I can find that again.

I do have that version of Sunday Bloody Sunday in mp3 if you want it.
That's the show that Bono had lost his voice, so it's very much a whisper with the croud backing him up. There's something very special about it.

Did he? It's been so long since I heard that I had forgotten. It doesn't really matter to me though. I know that was a very moving performance, the whole show was.

I have a "U2 - Live" cd I made a while ago that starts with the R&H Sunday Bloody Sunday and ends with the Sarajevo Sunday Bloody Sunday. I should put tha track listing up here sometime.

Oh, and there is a live version of "love is blindness" that is a b-side. It's from the ZooTV tour and says it's from Yankee Stadium I believe.

Hey, fancy meeting you here!

There's one thing I recommend...don't know if you've gotten this recommendation yet, but there's a version of Sunday Bloody Sunday performed live that includes Bono going off on a huge rant about the Irish Republican Army...it's affectionately known as the "Fuck the Revolution" speech, and it's simply electric. I have a copy of the MP3, but I have no idea how to get it to you if you want to hear it.

Hey, it was actually your post that made me realize I'd never joined the community! Nice to see ya!

That performance you speak of is the Rattle & Hum version, which a kind fan got for me off of the DVD version. So I do have it. I love that version, but it's also kinda painful to listen to... so we shall see. I think I will end up including it because it was one of the first performances I saw that really drew me to U2. Also... the Live Aid version of Bad, which I consider absolutely classic.
