I'm currently feelin: tired tired
I'm currently hearin: U2- "Discotheque"

Just a quick Gangs of New York question--

For those of you who have seen it, when does "The Hands that Built America" play? Is it actually in the film, or does it play during the credits like "Elevation" did in the Tomb Raider movie? Also, what did you think of the movie itself? I was debating seeing it, but I hear that it's quite bloody and gore-filled. Is it worth it? Thanks. :)

It plays as the credits roll when the final scene fades, and is a different recording than what appears on THE BEST OF 1990-2000 disc one. I'm guessing maybe this movie version will be on the soundtrack perhaps. It is a bloody film, but the characters and story are so gripping that it more than makes up for it. And I am not a movie buff in the slightest, but this film I thoroughly enjoyed.

I'd say it's definitely worth seeing.

As eclipse said, the song plays starting at the end of the last scene and goes through to the credits. It's the soundtrack version, and it happens to sound ten times better coming out the movie speakers than it does those of a cd player.

i loved how they included it. you have to listen to leo's last monologue and over it the instrumental part towards the end of the song plays really loud as the time passes and suddenly they do a slam zoom into the title "gangs of new york" with the music REALLY loud and then you hear the lyrics. great great ending.

I really enjoyed the film. Daniel Day Lewis steals the show.
I thought they could have casted Jenny better. And Amsterdam's character could have been developed much more.

I went going thinking, "I HATE leo movies.. egh.. three hours of LEO.. egh..." and I ended up absolutely loving it.

It's worth seeing, but isn't for the faint of heart. There is much gruesome violence.

Another note. I've never seen a film where the soundtrack added so much. The music is fantastic!

i'll second that - the music added so much atmosphere to this incredible film.

i actually just got home from seeing it - and i feel exhausted!

the ending IS great, i'll second that too, the way hands rises up over the concluding monologue.

after seeing that film, i listen to the entire hands that built america song with so much more appreciation for and understanding of the lyrics. i think bono even worked in a line from the movie in there?
I took your kiss
On the spray of a new lined star

i might recall leo's character saying something similar about a star?

who knows. i'm delerious at this point. go see this film.
