i heard about this a few days ago..but it was on a not very reliable site so i thought it was probably just a rumour...it was about MTV as well....but it was alongf the same kinda lines...don't show vids that could remind people of war...

don't show vids that could remind people of war...

but the news can show images of the real thing. No....that doesn't remind us of war, does it?

amen simone.... so we can't see videos that show FAKE explosions and all that, but we can see all the news coverage we want about the REAL war.

that's fucking sick. so censorship isn't only america's tool- the rest of the world uses it too... that's just sick.

That is a rather pathetic move, in my opinion.

I suppose the channels are just trying to be sensitive to people who may be easily upset but what's happening these days... and it's not like "Miss Sarajevo" receives much airplay in 2003.

It's a sensible idea, but they really should've kept the internal memo, uh... internal.

*continued from previous post*

...ESPECIALLY considering the memo says something to the effect of "don't play videos by the B-52s; the ARTIST'S NAME is touchy in times of war."

How silly.

That's sorta dumb. And it's a good point, how often does Miss Sarejevo get played these days?

It's censorship! But England might not have the same laws as over here, I don't know.

It's like after September 11th, Clearchannel banned a billion songs, and after looking at the list.. it was like whaaaaat?

They might as well ban all U2, it's a spy plane, spy planes sometimes are used during war time... ;)

*shrugs* I'm an insensitive bastard and played Bombs over Baghdad by Outkast the day it all started.. yeah, it's been stated, I'm already going to hell.

Censorship is when the government says something can't be seen, heard, displayed, etc.

When a private company does it, it is not illegal. Radio stations have play lists that that use. This usually consists of a few hundred songs (mostly recent hits). The same thing is true about the video channels.

I'm not saying it is right for them to ban Miss Sarajevo. But it isn't illegal.
