Whiskey In the Jar @ 11:05 pm

I'm currently hearin: Thin Lizzy, "Whiskey in the Jar"

I had downloaded a live version of "Whiskey in the Jar" from Kazaa, and it was labelled U2, but I've been burned before ("Creep," anyone?). This one SOUNDS like Bono, but does anyone know what concert it's from?

It's a fair audience recording, and it sure sounds like Bono singing at first, but then the audience starts singing along, and it sounds like Bono stops singing and lets the audience take over. It's really fun and cool ... anyone heard this? I'd love to know when this was recorded.

Aye, i've heard it. I'm pretty convinced that it's the real deal. When Bono talks about "Patty of the Dockers" or something rather in the beginning, especially the line, "But Dockers lives on..." (that's what it sounds like, at least) it is very Bono-esque, both in accent and in phrasing. And the music sounds like our boys. Irish band performing a traditional Irish song in the capital of Ireland, what more could you ask for? Very cool track...

isn't there a version that Larry is singing the song?

Yes, on the Zoo TV tour, Larry would often come forward to sing an Irish ditty a capella. He sang either "Whiskey in the Jar," "Wild Rover" and "Dirty Old Town." This version, however, is a full band version.
