I'd bet $100 that Bono is probably a big fan of Jimmy Carter, who has done alot to make this world a better place.

i'm sure he has alot of respect for jimmy carter. the work he's done with habitat for humanity is right up bono's alley. if you're not aware of what they've been doing to provide decent housing to poverty level families and beyond, check it out. you'll be very impreseed. it's very similar to bono's focus on aids in africa, and the water issues that exist there.

they're both cool.

but, i want bono to win this time. he deserves it.

Yes, I too really want Bono to win this time; at the same time, I couldn't let someone calling Jimmy Carter a moron go by unchallenged :)

Darnnit I couldn't edit my last comment. I was goign to say I hope the nobel committee makes the right decision this time. I remember the absolutly giggly irony when i read that they were going to give the nobel peace prize one year but didn't because they couldn't decide between two finalist: Adolph Hitler and GHANDI!

sighh

Im not joking. http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,855588,00.html

This is one of the reasons why I do not put much stock in the Nobel committee. I think of it this way: All of all the people that should've gotten the award for the promotion of Peace, Jimmy Carter uses none of his own money, is paid $200,000 a year as a former president, and has his own security and office staff that also paid for by the government.

BONO on the other hand spends his own money and countless hours promoting peace throughout the world and has done so for at least twenty years! Carter was given the prize, as stated by the Nobel Committee, as a "kick in the shins" to George Bush. The prize was absolutly political and unfortunaly has become more so in recent history. The Nobel Peace Prize should not be used as a political tool but instead should be an award given to someone who has promoted peace in the world.

That's why I disagree with the selection of Carter and that is why I am doubtful (with great sadness) that Bono will probably not recieve the award anytime soon. I hope they prove me wrong.

best
Jonathan

very enlightening... thank you.

i hope we are right.... in our hope for bono to be recognized as the true global statesman that he is...'

let's face it, this is not the first time he's taken a stand politically. if he wins, it really a cumulative award. if he doesn't, the world has lost the opportunity to thank it's first real rock activist...

i do think the tables will turn eventually. and dumb optimist that i am, i am hoping for sooner rather than later.

Didn't this make the news months ago? Or did I totally miss something?

Did he make the next "round" or whatever they call it?
