Conservative Groups Denounce FCC Decision On Use of "Fuck"

The heads of two leading conservative groups have asked the FCC to overturn a decision by its enforcement bureau that the use of the "f-word" on a national television show did not violate the FCC's indecency rules. The bureau ruled last month that the utterance of the words "fucking brilliant" by Bono during the Golden Globes awards in January "may be crude and offensive, but, in the context presented here, did not describe sexual or excretory organs or activities," the FCC's guideline for indecency. However, the Rev. Donald E. Wildmon, head of the American Family Association, commented: "This ruling clearly opens the floodgates for general use of the 'f-word' in any TV show or radio program -- except in sexual situations." Separately Brent Bozell of the Parents Television Council commented that the ruling makes a "mockery of an organization charged with serving the public interest" and warned that it will result in expressions like "fuck you" being used "over the public airwaves, in front of millions of children."

Honestly, what would they have done to Bono anyway? A little fine and a slap on the wrist or something. It's the censors' fault anyway for not learning from the Grammies and realizing that Bono runs his mouth off at any given moment.

I only wish I'd heard him say it. :)

EX-ACTLY!

I just find it hilarious that 1) at the center of this whole contraversy is... BONO! and 2) they're making such a big fuss (specifically: arguing, deciding, arguing some more, overturning decisions) the word "fuck," which, in my opinion, is more than a little vulgar, regardless of how the word is used. *shrug* It's all so very strange.

...AND: 3) they've spent a good half-a-YEAR figuring this all out. Sheeshkabob!

Ah, my mistake... I mistakenly thought the ruling had been overturned, not denounced. My bad!

Well, yeah...

Actually, since Bono said that "word" on television and since the FCC said the "word" was not indecent, I've been using the "word" freely ever since. And I use it solely because of those two reasons. Ha ha!!! Whatever...

Please.... one word on a fucking (yes, I'm using it) awards show. And who really cares what the FCC concludes anyway. Really, they should spend time on better things than this.

Also, someone should tell Brent Bozell to find a better example than "fuck you." After all, by FCC guidelines, this could be seen as describing "sexual or excretory organs or activities."

Bah!

I work at a shopping centre, and the minute school gets out the language level gets absolutely repulsive. I heard a five year old boy call his mother a fucking whore the other day.

So it's BONO's fault? Of course it is :D
