about 3 minutes, and NOT AT ALL!!! (imho), it's a piece-of-crap-run-of-the-mill teen *drama*. Ugh. I was all excited when I first heard about it, too....figured, "what are the odds they'd just *happen* to use that name??". but bleh. :-X

yeah i was a little concerned with what station it was being aired on. the WB isn't exactly world-renowned for quality programming... :p

Where did the name of the show come from?

It seems highly coincidental that it shares its name with a song called "One Tree Hill." Not exactly a common combination of words.

One Tree Hill is a way of saying that very little else beyond one specific thing can reasonably fit a certain niche.

In the TV show, it's two jealous half-brothers vying for the same niche, and only one of them has a chance of succeeding, because once he does, the other is pushed aside. Thus, the 'victorious' brother is the one tree on the hill.

In the song, which is dedicated to a friend of the band who was killed in a motorcycle accident, it is a way of elevating their late friend to some high status. No one can feel his specific niche in their heart. Thus, he's the one tree on the hill.

Does that make sense at all?

The U2 song took its name from the famous hill in Auckland, NZ. Until only a few years ago, a lone pine grew at its summit.... hence the name.

I never knew 'One Tree Hill' was a saying, though. Oddness..

I nosed around on the WB site, and the town the characters live in is called Tree Hill. But they must be aware of the U2 reference, because they had an episode that was called "All That You Can't Leave Behind." Heard from a friend that the show was really lame but that it is improving.

yeah they must be aware of the reference then.

haha, WB shows usually have a certan level of "lameness" to them.
