Hello Hello!!

Question re: MP3's & rare songs @ 04:33 pm

melst:
I'm currently feelin: curious curious
I'm currently hearin: U2 R.O.K.

Howdy,

I don't much post here, but, well, I just bought some new software so that I can convert my audio files to MP3's and, being the good U2 samaritan that I am, I was thinking of periodically uploading some of my rarer U2 songs to my website & posting them in my LJ for my fellow U2 fans.

But, what I would like to know is:

1. Is this something you would be interested in?

2. What would you consider "rare?" (I know that some of us would consider, say, "Sweet Fire of Love" rare, while others would think, say, "J. Swallow" more rare...)

So, let me hear your feedback! (And please feel free to be totally honest. If no one is interested, it won't hurt my feelings, lol.) :)

Cheers!
-Mel

i'd be interested :) the only stuff i really have is b-sides and the like, so to me, darn near anything would be "rare" lol

that would be amazing. i recently began my quest for non-album stuff, and i don't have any older singles, so i don't really have b-sides. if you happened to have any of the songs i'm missing, even if you just put up one or two, i would love you forever.

alex descends into hell for a bottle of milk/korova 1
be there
blow your house down (version 1)
boomerang ii
bottoms (watashitachi no ookina yume) (zoo station remix)
boy/girl
dancin' shoes
deep in the heart
fortunate son
heaven and hell
holy joe
i feel free
i'm not your baby
inside out
i've got you under my skin
lost on a silent planet
never let me go
night and day
no man's land
sixty seconds in kingdom come
slow dancing
springhill mining disaster
the dream is over
the fool
touch
two shots of happy, one shot of sad
viva davidoff
where did it all go wrong

i think that;s it (i know, *that*'s it) but i could have added i few/missed a few. but i'll be grateful for anything

Off the top of my head, I *know* I have these:

alex descends into hell for a bottle of milk/korova 1
deep in the heart
fortunate son
holy joe
i've got you under my skin
night and day
no man's land
sixty seconds in kingdom come
slow dancing
touch
two shots of happy, one shot of sad
where did it all go wrong

So I will post those (when they are ready).

Then once I'm done converting/uploading I'll try to make a complete list of everything I have (something I've been meaning to do for like 10 years, lol). :)

Ok, so I *finally* got around to researching these, lol

Out of your list, the following I have:

alex descends into hell for a bottle of milk/korova 1 = the fly single
blow your house down (version 1) = AB outtakes (?)
boomerang II = b-side Pride
dancin' shoes = MDH soundtrack
deep in the heart = ISHFWILF single
heaven and hell = AB outtakes
holy joe = discotheque single (or japanese import pop)
i feel free = AB outtake
i'm not your baby = please single (or the end of violence soundtrack)
i've got you under my skin = stay single
lost on a silent planet (aka the magic carpet) = bootleg (never released)
never let me go = MDH soundtrack
night and day = One maxi single or Red, Hot, & Blue (or the Out Loud album)
slow dancing = stay or if god will send his angels or the best of
the dream is over = bootleg (never released)
touch = bootleg (or pride single or 11 oclock tick tock single)
two shots of happy, one shot of sad = if god will send his angels single
where did it all go wrong = EBTTRT single

The following I'm getting soon:

bottoms (watashitachi no ookina yume) (zoo station remix) = Miss Sarajevo single
fortunate son = wgrywh part #1 single
viva davidoff = miss sarajevo b-side on single

The following I don't currently have, but I do have info for (ones marked with * I can get):

be there = played live once during UF tour
boy/girl = U2-3 single*
inside out = check bootlegs from 1978-79 (never released)
sixty seconds in kingdom come = unforgettable fire single (not the version I have, unfortunately)
springhill mining disaster = a cover played during JT era (by peggy seeger, performed by the dubliners) 03/16/87 on the Late Late Show Ireland & a couple of times on JT tour b/w April & June*
the fool = performed August, 1979 at the Dandelion Car Park in Dublin (never released)

And this one I couldn't find anywhere (nor could anyone I asked!!!):

no man's land = ??? %|

well, i think that covers all of them, lol... let me know if i missed 1 :)

cheers,
mel

I'm VERY interested. I have hardly any singles, and would love to hear the old b-sides like J. Swallow and Pete The Chop. If you've got the non-album singles of Another Day and ESPECIALLY 11 O'clock Tick Tock (I collect live versions of it but I'm yet to find the studio version), I would love you forever if you could get a copy to me.

Ironically, I've got like a zillion versions of 11 O'clock Tick Tock... I'll have to check on Another Day (??? My mind is drawing a complete blank -- must be my cold, lol.) And I definitely have J. Swallow and I *think* I have Pete the Chop.

*hoping I have everything I'm thinking of on CD & wondering how to transfer old cassette tapes & vinyl :/*

Ooo, that's great. Anything 11OTT-y that I don't have I'm interested in. Though I'd have no idea how you'd transfer some stuff from old cassettes ... I know it can be done, because I have a copy of the Fire riff from the end of the Boy record on mp3 and it was (obviously) taken from vinyl, but I'm unsure of the how.

Note:

I will be posting the links to the MP3's in my LJ entries just so I don't clog up this community with (what may be) a zillion links to links to MP3's, lol. Just an FYI. I'll be sure to make them all "public," of course, and title them something like "MP3 DL" or something so you know what it is right off the bat. :)

I think that would be best, unless there's a U2 MP3 community type thing or something??? LOL, I dunno... I'm exhausted! :P

that sounds like a fabulous idea, I know I'd be interested, though I have most (at least a lot) of them myself.
a u2 mp3 communtiy would be a good idea, but this is just fantastic and very very nice of you!

seems like it's a longshot, but if you had a copy of their live cover of "love will tear us apart,"
i'd be interested in listening to it.

thanks for doing this! :)

I'll tell you what! That is one damn hard song to find! LOL! (especially if you're kinda lazy like me & just search the net) Well, I couldn't find it on any of my bootlegs, but all I know is it's Popmart (some have said PopMex, Santiago, Johannesburg, and/or Sarajevo). *shrug*

Wow! That's a great idea, and very generous of you! I'd definintely be interested, too, since I've got (I think) all the singles from AB on, but only a couple from before then and I can never find them anywhere.

Ok, I'm about ready to fall over... I need to go to bed, though I still have a bunch more to do, including the Achtung Baby Outtakes.

Anyhoo, I've decided to upload 4 for now (if I can fit them all on my site) and then after that make some sort of master list to go thru, but sooo not right now, lol.

So, the first 4 will be:

alex descends into hell for a bottle of milk
where did it all go wrong
j. swallow
treasure (whatever happened to pete chop)

I gotta upload those, then I'm-a going to bed! :)

I don't suppose you have Cartoon World?  I still haven't heard that one, and all I could find online was a crappy-quality live version that wouldn't download properly.

I'm kinda hoping to hear the original demo version (assuming there is one), but I guess anything would do, considering I haven't heard it at all!

Great idea! I have quite a few of the tracks requested so far, so if you find you have gaps, and when I have some time after Christmas, I'd be happy to try and plug those gaps for you.

Hope you don't mind, I added you to my friends list just so that I can see any posts you make about this a little easier, no need to add me back (unless you want to of course).

I'm sure I have gaps, so it'd be great to fill 'em!
