Hello Hello!!

Singing along (or not) @ 10:11 pm

canadanne:
I'm currently feelin: curious curious
I'm currently hearin: War (hence the train of thought)

New topic... which U2 song(s) are you best at singing along to?

I haven't given this much thought yet, but off the top of my head - on a good day I can do a kickarse New Year's Day!  Actually, pretty much all of War... early Bono seems to suit my voice, with all the screamy stuff. *g*

Also, which songs CAN'T you sing to save your life?!  I nearly always have trouble hitting a suitable octave for Stay and Van Diemen's Land, for some reason - I either start too low or too high, and then find I can't reach certain notes further on...

I'm a horrible singer, but the songs I do the best are Seconds and Desire. Don't even ask me to sing Lemon or Red Hill Mining Town, though ...

Oooh, fun. :D I'm basically pretty good at a lot of the Achtung Baby stuff because I can't really go all that high without my voice cracking. That said, I'm awful at Stay, Red Hill Mining Town, and some of the early stuff. Oh, and All I Want is You. I simply CANNOT mimick Bono's throaty "all I want is YOUUUU!" at the end... it must be a guy thing, to get your voice all husky like that.

Red Hill Mining Town is always the ultimate test for whether I'm having a good voice day or not... *sometimes* I can nail it, but usually not!  Same goes for Bad....

Yeah, Van Diemen's Land usually has me pressing Repeat on my CD player because I don't start out with the right octave.

Good for singing is pretty much everything from Rattle & Hum or Achtung Baby. Probably because I have the most practice with these. And for some reason I really enjoy to sing along with Lemon (though I'm probably not good at it at all).

When I'm listening to Lemon on the album, I like singing the extra bits that Mac does on the Sydney video. :o)  Midnight... midniiiight... midniiiiiight is where the day be-gins!

Heh. I dunno if I count since I sang a lot of U2 back when I had a band.....

Like A Song is one of my personal favorites to sing... lots of emotion gets let off with that one.
The Unforgettable Fire... for melancholy nights...
and I'll allow myself a little teensy ego here (LOL) and say I do a damned good version of A Sort Of Homecoming and Bad.
I do fine with just about anything from Boy, UF, JT and AB.

...but lets face it, any of us trying to sing Pride or Streets is gonna come off sounding, well, lame, compared to the B-man..
*grin* I know I sure as hell do. LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME.

There's one song that I am FOREVER losing the key when I attempt it (too high for this tenor) and it's not coming to mind...blahrgl..I just know I sound horrendous even when it's just me and my dog listening.. she gives me this look of "will you STOP THAT!" hehehehehehehehehehehehehehe

I sing Like A Song when I'm really pissed off - it's such a great anger release! *growl*

I'm pretty good at The Unforgettable Fire too. At first I always had trouble with the line "Ever after is loving time, and if you save your love..." (for some reason I could never hit the right notes there!), but once I mastered it, I've been fine with it ever since.

I often end up switching octaves about a million times in With Or Without You - could that be the one you're trying to think of??

I can pretty much keep in tune with every U2 song - except for when bono's voice gets pretty deep andthen I just hum along. :(

I love Pride. It's my favorite U2 song. I also like singing Wild Honey, New Year's Day, and Running to Stand Still. I was a schoolgirl when Running came out (as part of the Joshua Tree). My friend Rachel & I both liked that song. We would start singing it at the same time. It was so weird. That wasn't even released as a single, I don't think. Great minds think alike.
"You gotta cry without weeping,
Talk without speaking,
Scream without raising your voice"
--> Bono is almost describing the Internet in that song. LOL

ISN'T THIS FUNNY--> I had a friend in high school named Cristina. The only thing we had in common was that we were both U2 fanatics. It was the SOLE BASIS for our friendship. Kinda one-sided. LOL

Ah yes, Staring At The Sun is another one I'm good at... and I can do *most* of Angel of Harlem pretty well, except the "Yeah yeah!" after "Heart and souuuullll...." is usually a bit too high for me. ;o)

I cannot do Beautiful Day to save myself. But... well, the more typically melodic the song is, the easier it seems to be to sing. Or maybe it just *sounds* better to be melodic if I'm going to butcher it...

My singing is decent, bad, or punishable by death, depending on who you talk to. I am in Bono's range , and I can do a passable Edge on his backup vocals to SIAM. I love singing along to Gone, but I think I shout the words to that song more than sing them :). Lemon makes my throat hurt, though it's a fun song too. All in all, I think I am best with Stay (Faraway, So Close!) and anything from Achtung Baby.

As for what I can't sing, probably Bad & MOFO - but that is because I mess up the words a lot, not because I can't hit the notes.

yes: When Love Comes To Town and ISHFWILF (love doing really bluesy note-bendy versions of those), One, Stay (only sometimes though, Bono sings some low notes I can't hit usually), Please (same as Stay) Electric Co, I Will Follow

no: Streets, The Fly (and Mysterious Ways, same problems with those), Bullet, Bad (unless I bump it down half a step or so), pretty much anything from UF and Pop, Van Diemen's Land (unless I find that magic and elusive octave)

Ah yeah, I can *usually* do a good Please. I think I'm quite good at Mysterious Ways. I wonder why Van Diemen's Land causes so many of us problems?!

I pretty much can sing all (to the best of my natural vocal abillity) all the songs on the ATYCLB album. I've listened to those songs the most and i find that there is a song for almost every emotion.

The one song that miffs me is 'Lemon'. Bono sings higher then me, and in the male falseto only guys can get.

Oooo, good question!

Songs that I do well: Wake Up Dead Man, In a Little While, Kite, MLK, Out of Control, Who's Gonna Ride..., Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car, Babyface, All I Want is You, Running to Stand Still, One Tree Hill.

Songs that I couldn't do to save my life: Stay (esp. when it gets to the crescendo on the second Chorus, just don't have the range), Lemon (I prefer doing the talking heads in the background), The Wanderer (of course that's in a class all by itself), Bad, Red Hill Mining Town, New Year's Day, I Will Follow, Stuck in A Moment, Beautiful Day, Gone, any song The Edge sings.

Funny how Zooropa seems to stand out for me as the album that has the best and the worst vocals (for my capability). Guess it is the most vocally diverse album!

I rock at In A Little While - I forgot about that one! :D  I'm good at RTSS too.

I'm glad I brought this topic up, it's proving to be very interesting!
