U2's Bono said Thursday that the long-awaited follow-up to All That You Can't Leave Behind will be completed by the end of the summer. Referring to the still-untitled LP as the band's "first rock record," Bono also said that he expects the first single to hit the airwaves in September, followed by the album's release one month later. The U2 frontman made the revelations during an appearance on "CNN Live Today," where he discussed Canada's $50 million contribution to his global campaign to fight HIV/AIDS and his upcoming efforts to increase awareness of the disease amongst voters in the United States. ...

Fantastic news.

If Bono wants to get something done, I hope he tells voters to go with John Kerry. The current idiot resident in the White House has done nill for the AIDs problem.

Although i'm not a member of this forum, and i only browse livejournal once in a blue moon, i couldn't help but reply to this. I don't know why people have to play partisan politics with my favorite band, especially considering that Bono himself has decried such thinking on numerous occasions. Let's try to focus on the task at hand, eh?

To reply to your rather inaccurate statement, four words: $15 Billion AIDS Initiative. Built on the Uganda model for quality results for the buck, this initiative is the most sweeping of all U.S. African aid programs in history. Yes, there's always more to be done, and yes, there's still wrangling in congress, and yes, the B-Man and the rest of us will have to keep pushing to assure optimal results. But yes, this unprecendented initiative was under the Bush administration.

By the way, i don't intend to vote for Bush in November, nor Kerry. I'm not sure who i'll be voting for, because this is yet another lesser-of-evils election. But i simply cannot tolerate such inaccuracy, especially when it involves someone as courageous, charismatic, and dedicated as Bono.
