ooh! that was really good. I think it would definately appeal to someone that didnt know about U2. You explained them wonderfully. And I LOVE Pop too. I am listening to Mofo right now!

Nice. It's solid. The only thing I would change would be 'paper typing' it just, I get it , but it sounds funny.

*hides in a corner reserved for people who editorialize instead of listening to the story itself.

thank you! and goodness, don't worry about editorializing, I was a little sketchy about the 'paper typing' thing myself, so thanks for confirming that ..because seriously our editors are lazy and likely wouldn't notice something like that anyways, but I know I'd want it to come across as clear as possible for the reader, so thanks. :) That way we can bring more people over to the dark side. *evil laugh* U2 TAKEOVER!

On the whole, it's very good. The only thing that perplexed me was your interpretation of SATS. I've heard a number of interpretations, but never "illustrat[ing] a transient fling and question[ing] its permanence, but never its passion." Not that that's a bad thing, though, considering the broad variety of ways in which U2 songs can be interpreted. I'm always fascinated to hear a new perspective, especially on songs I really like (which, for me, doesn't cover SATS ... I feel the lyrics are very deep but when I hear it, I can't help thinking of Party Girl and Wild Honey).

you know what's funny about the SATS thing? until I got around to actually writing this thing, I'd never really given a conscious thought as to what the song really was about, and it took me a while to figure out something that might make sense...I'd just always listened to it and enjoyed it, especially the part where "but you never really belonged to me" goes into the last chorus, which always floors me. thanks for saying something about it- I'd never really seen much interpretation on it and I was wondering what people would think. I agree though, one of the best things about u2 is that their music can be seen in so many ways- you can appreciate the songs on so many levels, from just being like "man that's a great song" to really contemplating the deeper message. thank you so much for the feedback (pardon the bad pun ;) )..it was nice to see what you thought about it and I really appreciate it. :D

Well, I thought you might be interested in what other people have posted about SATS on the U2 MoL. I've found that site to be a fascinating resource when it comes to seeing just how diverse the messages are in U2's music. The beauty is that quite often, it is very hard to say "that interpretation is wrong" because the music is so individual and personal. I think With Or Without You is the best example of that - I'm yet to meet two people with exactly the same interpretation.

Well said. It's nice to hear a case for what I think is one of their very best albums (though it would've been even better to hear a mention of "Gone", the best song on the album, IMHO). Kudos!

thanks! :D :D I'm really glad you like it, and that other people feel the same way about the album... I hate how POP always ends up getting such an undeserved bad rep when personally, I find it more enjoyable than a lot of the songs on atyclb, which was so much better received. *shakes head* sorry 'bout 'gone' not making an appearance- I tried to bend it into the 'fulfillment' bit but I know I didn't do it justice. :( I actually preferred the new mix they did of it on best of 1990-00 and the live version (I think bringing in edge's vocals behind it really rounded it out) more than the one on the album itself, but its def. still a gem. :)
