I'm currently feelin: chipper chipper
I'm currently hearin: Vertigo (on loop)! ! !

ok, Vertigo....

You've heard the song, you'e read the lyrics.

What does it say to you? What do you think it's about or what it means? I'm really curious to see what everyone thinks. I'm still thinking about it. Whoa, for starters...but real, in depth, what is it about? what does it mean to YOU?

That's a big question. Without being able to spend time here (I should be getting ready for class...yeah, wow...I really should) I will say it means a lot, even if it is fun and yay. It's there. It means...hum. It's perfect for me right now. It FITS. It's right.

I'm still working on this "all of this can be yours, just give me what i want and noone gets hurt" business...

Everything is a bit off kilter, from the countdown that starts the song. I imagine that a rock star's world is pretty surreal a lot of the time. But he refers several times, including at the end, to someone giving him something he can feel, something dependable, worthwhile, something that perhaps even humbles him (teaches him how to kneel.)

The "all this can be yours" part actually makes me think of Christ tempted in the desert, but I don't think the allusion is strong enough to actually argue- it's just what popped into my head.

Ok, I dunno if this is gonna make sense, but this is how I relate to the song:

I feel like Vertigo is a club or dance hall type place and the music sucks -- no real beat, no one can dance b/c of that, etc. -- And that it's like pleading for something real, something with soul, passion, real music, not just industry churned out factory pop rock, but amongst all the bang and the clatter there's something real -- some real music that touches you, reaches you, makes you feel (for me, that music would be U2) and meanwhile all this takes place inside a sort of bubble, like a shelter from the real world, shelter from the "bullets ripping the sky," like you can escape all that in Vertigo, then there's the experience of veritgo (which is something I actually suffer from) and you lose all sense of balance, perception, distance, etc... Yeah, make sense? LOL :P

I just noticed this:

(Beautiful Day - desperate voice)
"Teach me, love, I know I'm not a hopeless case..."

(One album later - joyful voice)
"I can feel your love teaching me how..."

It's almost like "My prayers have been answered - now let's dance!" ;o)

I think it's a song about prison rape. From a Hispanic man. And how your mind goes to its own little "happy place" when you're in the middle of it.

Lights go down, it's dark... your mind can wander... It's everything I wish I didn't know, except you give me something... give me what I want and no one gets hurt... your love is teaching me how to kneel...

It's pretty obvious.
